The 5 Best Data Recovery Services in Houston

The 5 Best Data Recovery Services in Houston Homepage

How We Picked

Budget: Data recovery businesses don’t typically post their rates because each issue could require a unique process to accomplish. For that reason, clients should be given a free assessment to get a rough expectation of the job estimate.
Warranty: These kinds of benefits are crucial since you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars just to find your information can’t be recovered. Clients should not be required to pay if the business can’t fix the problem.
Speed: We live in a fast pace society. Generally, data recovery businesses take between 7 to 14 days to complete the job. The faster they can accomplish it, the faster their clients can move forward.
Scope: Each client uses a variety of storage devices from SDD and HDD to whole desktop computers. Clients are better off with companies that cover the entire field and can be a one-stop shop for storage devices.

Data Secure Recovery has been in the industry since 2007 and has earned several certifications, such as the SSAE 18 Type II SOC 1, 2, and 3. These certifications prove its ability to secure and protect sensitive data.

Moreover, it is the only data recovery company with Class 10 ISO 4 cleanrooms in the United States. These cleanrooms make it possible to accomplish the hardest data recovering tasks.

We had a hiccup trying to reach Secure Data Recovery. We sent a request through its website but did not receive a confirmation within 24 hours.

We tried calling its contact number and that’s when we got a hold of a representative. We suggest you do the same.

When we got in touch with Scott at Secure Data Recovery, he explained the procedure and cost structure in great detail. This gave us the confidence to move forward with the job.

The initial estimate that was given to us was quite expensive for recovering files. But Scott was able to provide a more affordable alternative option, which we really appreciated.

We were happy with everything! All in all, the job was accomplished with all the data recovered, and our only complaint was it took around 20 days, even though we chose the 7-12 day turnaround option.

ACE Data Recovery is a long-established company that started in 1981, making it the second oldest company in the world! This truly sparked our interest.

Typically, assessments usually range from $20 to $40. With that said, what stood out to us is this company’s free assessment for its possible clients.

It takes around two days for an update after the free assessment and the service can take around five to six business days, depending on the degree of damage.

Chances are, about 50-100 percent of the files can be recovered, depending on the condition of the item, the skill of the person working on it, and the quality of the tools being used.

On one occasion, it managed to recover almost all the flies in a client’s HDD. Only 2 files could not be saved.

Though the entire endeavor was not cheap, costing the client around $1,000 in total.

ACE Data Recovery is also open on Saturdays, so busy people can use this opportunity to have their issues assessed by the experts here.

You get what you pay for in this provider, although its rates are significantly more expensive than most of its competitors.

If budget is not a top priority, this is a great place to come to and capitalize on the free assessment.

Pros

  • Accepts credit card payments
  • Quick turnaround
  • Well established in the industry

Cons

  • The shop is hard to find on maps
  • Website could use an update
  • No free assessment

Bits and Bytes Computers is also another long-standing business in the industry, established in 1994. Upon checking its website, we appreciate that it had its rates presented upfront.

When we visited the shop, we noticed that its technicians were very accommodating to all clients. They were engaged and focused on the customer in front of them.

We appreciate the straightforward approach of the technicians since most clients are busy like us and don’t have time for small talk.

Upon talking with its prior customers, it seems they all experienced the same reasonable timeframe.

Clients get a phone call after the initial assessment and after that, it takes anywhere from 4 to 12 business days to complete the process.

For instance, one customer received a complete update just a day after the initial assessment and got his device back within 3 business days.

Some of its past clients’ notable complaints involve it being hard to find the store on maps, so we suggest researching beforehand to save you the stress.

They also told us there was no free assessment, which we didn’t like. After all, not everyone will be willing to pay for an assessment only to find out the damage isn’t that serious.

  • Accepts multiple payment options

  • Excellent customer service

Cons

  • Website could use an update
  • Does not accept cryptocurrency
  • Long turnaround time

Dubbed as Houston’s #1 Computer store by ABC13, Top Tech Experts is all business!

Clients can attest to that claim because we heard a lot of positive feedback about the service they received from Top Tech Experts.

For instance, a client we spoke to once brought his work laptop with BSOD errors and the technician who handled his case was very insightful and offered various options to tackle the problem.

Within the next day, the client got a follow-up on the breakdown of the issues found, which we thought was a good move since this also educates clients on the subject matter.

The entire job took four business days, which is surprising for us, especially for a fix that was not that complicated.

This shop’s rates are about $100 less compared to other places. And on top of that, there is a free assessment that helps lower the total cost of the bill.

Payment options here are quite flexible, which we think is convenient. The provider accepts credit cards, Apple Pay, and Android Pay.

However, you should note that it doesn’t accept cryptocurrency as payment, so this place might not be the best option if you’re currently relying on a crypto wallet.

Cons

  • Extra fees
  • Diagnosis procedure not too accurate
  • Quoting issues
  • Website needs an update

911 Data Recovery is owned by Brad Schlerf. He has 30 years of experience in the Army and law enforcement and is an expert in computer forensics.

Many customers we got in touch with hold Brad and 911 Data Recovery in high regard for their long experience and expertise in the industry.

However, others have also said that their website could most definitely use an upgrade. It’s not just a matter of aesthetics, but also practicality in terms of navigation.

Upon entering, we noticed right away that Brad was very knowledgeable and insightful in his conversations with clients.

Moreover, we were impressed with the other technicians who shared the same approach and knowledge as Brad.

However, we found out that some clients have had problems with this company’s quotes and the diagnosis procedure.

For instance, a former client we got to talk to had his old MacBook checked to see if the photos were still available to salvage.

Upon diagnosing the issue, the technician pointed out that they had to recover the hard drive to get to his pictures. The initial estimate was $200 but eventually, the damage was bigger than they originally thought.

This caught the client off guard. But by that point, he was already committed, so he agreed to continue.

Despite this, there are still plenty of satisfied clients that stand by 911 Data Recovery’s long-standing service in the data recovery industry.
