God Save The Beans: 10 English Breakfast Spots in Houston!

God Save The Beans 10 English Breakfast Spots in Houston!

The English Breakfast is a bit of a weird one. It went from eggs, sausages, bacon, toast, and beans to having the toast replaced with waffles or avocado toast, the traditional English Breakfast had more variations to it than the menu at your local McDonald’s.

If you ask us, the change is greatly appreciated. It still maintains the same bare bones as the traditional English Breakfast, all while adding a certain Americanized charm to it. Though some might say that defeats the point, it makes for a more interesting meal.

So if you’re on the lookout for the best English breakfast joints in Houston (or you just want a different breakfast), then we got you! Authenticity is the name of the game as we give you the best places to get an all-authentic English Breakfast in Houston!

1. Common Bond Bistro & Bakery – Heights

Address: 449 W 19th St Suite #B-100, Houston, TX 77008

Phone Number: 713-357-9397

Website

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 7 AM – 9:00 PM

The moment you take a step at Common Ground Bistro & Bakery, you’ll be welcomed by the unmistakable scent of fresh bread and fried bacon. And if that doesn’t set a good precedent for their food, then we don’t know what will!

Common Bond Bistro & Bakery’s take on the traditional English breakfast has a delectable savory gravy that matches perfectly with the crumbly biscuits.

Their Drip Coffee coffee pairs incredibly well with the breakfast too, which completes the restaurant’s overall vibe. We love that the general atmosphere here is calming, which makes every breakfast taste that much more delicious.

Pro Tips:
Though Common Bond Bistro & Bakery’s food has partnered with delivery apps, we highly suggest visiting them in person! The vibe is everything!

2. The Nook Cafe

Address: University of Houston, 4701 Calhoun Rd, Houston, TX 77004

Website

Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Saturday – Sunday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Recently refurbished and oozing with chic appeal, The Nook Cafe is a go-to for chic food and even better coffees that match the vibe that they’re going for. The maximalist, sticker-laden walls behind the counter give them a friendlier atmosphere, which we liked.

The Nook Cafe’s English breakfast has a unique Houstonian charm going for it. The sausages, bacon, and eggs are cooked to perfection, but requesting the eggs scrambled makes it feel that much more special.

Although The Nook Cafe is on the smaller side, the quick service and the eager staff make it feel ten times bigger than it really is. That, and the local artwork plastered on their walls give them a unique air which is always greatly appreciated.

Pro Tips:
The Nook Cafe has limited power outlets available, which doesn’t make it the best for long study or work sessions. We strongly suggest bringing a power bank or making sure your devices are fully-charged.

3. The Breakfast Klub

Address: 3711 Travis St, Houston, TX 77002

Phone Number: 713-528-8561

Website

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM

The Breakfast Klub (yes, that’s “klub” with a “k”) has built up a pretty good repertoire in Houston with their food. They did that by providing cheap, delicious breakfasts in a lively environment – and by selling spices so you can take the experience home with you!

The thing that we appreciate the most about The Breakfast Klub’s English Breakfast is their unique flavor. The signature savory mix breathes a new life into the traditional eggs, waffles, bacon, and sausages, which we love!

We also like that The Breakfast Klub lets you buy some of their specialty spices that make their food special! They offer chicken breading, waffle batter, and their signature seasoning, which lets you taste The Breakfast Klub at home!

Pro Tips:
To get both good food and excellent service, we suggest dropping by The Breakfast Klub around 9 to 11 AM!

4. Red Lion British Pub

Address: 2316 S Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX 77019

Phone Number: 281-888-3599

Website

Hours: Monday – Saturday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 AM

Sunday: 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM

If a true-blue, fully authentic English Breakfast is what you’re looking for, then that’s exactly what you’re getting at Red Lion British Pub on Shepherd Drive. From the unique decor to their delicious food, authenticity has always been their M.O.!

The Banger & Mash consists of a sausage, beans, and mashed potatoes, which goes well with each other. The sausage is made in-house as well, which gives it that unique bite to it that we appreciate!

And since Red Lion British Pub is still a pub, you can get great drinks that go well with their food! We recommend trying out Fuller’s London Pride Amber Ale if you want some beer but the Single Malt Scotch Aberlour 12 Year also a good pick.

Pro Tips:
During the football season, the Red Lion British Pub’s atmosphere becomes a lot more electric and fun – plus you can mingle with fans of the same team!

5. Good Times

Address: Central Square, 2100 Travis St Ste 160, Houston, TX 77002

Phone Number:832-804-7255

Website

Hours: Monday – Thursday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Friday – Sunday:  9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Yes, Good Times’ food presentation might seem a bit drab for those that are used to fancy breakfasts. But within their seemingly unappetizing English breakfast lies a delicious meal that will put your taste buds on a trip to England without leaving Houston!

Good Times’ Farmers Breakfast is their interpretation of the traditional English breakfast – and it’s a must to try. It consists of scrambled eggs, Slovacek sausage, home potato fries, and sourdough toast.

Service is relatively fast for a restaurant of this size, plus the friendly staff rounds up an overall positive experience. The staff’s extra touch of attentiveness elevates the overall experience as well, and they make sure that you’ll have a “Good Time”.

Pro Tips:
Although Good Times has patio seating available, less-than-savory people tend to hang out outside the restaurant. So if you really want to dine on their patio, make sure to secure your personal belongings.

6. Siphon Coffee

Address: 701 W Alabama St, Houston, TX 77006

Phone Number: 281-974-4426

Website

Hours: Monday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM

With a delectable aroma of coffee permeating throughout the entire restaurant, Siphon Coffee offers a peaceful breakfast experience for anyone stepping into their doors. Add to that their excellent English breakfast selection, and you’re in for a great time!

Siphon Coffee’s twist on the traditional English breakfast is their Avocado Toast, and we highly suggest adding an extra over-easy egg. The avocados we’ve tasted were super fresh, and the tomatoes with them give it a bit of an au naturale crunch.

To take things a bit further for a real English breakfast then we suggest partnering it with the Loose Leaf Tea. The tea’s subtle flavor makes the Avocado Toast stand out even more, which was quite the unexpected twist!

Pro Tips:
Siphon Coffee is often frequented by the Work-From-Home crowd, which means that it can get crowded. To avoid the lunch crowd, we suggest visiting them early in the morning, ideally at 9 AM onward!

7. Le Peep

Address: Westheimer Oaks, 4340 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77027

Phone Number: 713-629-7337

Website

Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 1:30 PM

Saturday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM

No relation to the Wendy Williams meme, Le Peep offers a unique, home-like atmosphere. That, plus their delicious English breakfast, ensures that your visit will always be a memorable one!

Le Peep’s twist on the English breakfast, the Lumberjack Breakfast, leans more on the traditional side of things. You can expect the combo of eggs, bacons, sausages, and pancakes with a side of grilled potatoes, plus maple syrup that brings it all together.

We also like to give a notable shoutout to Le Peep’s service – it’s by far one of the best ones we’ve encountered in Houston yet! You won’t have to wait too long for your food to arrive, and their staff are all smiles which rounds up for an excellent experience.

Pro Tips:
We honestly cannot recommend ordering anything with a sausage from Le Peep’s menu. It can come out expired sometimes, which can be a bit unsanitary for the most part.

8. Harry’s

Address: 318 Tuam St, Houston, TX 77006

Phone Number: 713-528-0198

Website

Hours: Monday, Wednesday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Saturday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

If you’re a suckler for an authentic English breakfast, then we recommend trying out Harry’s for an authentic experience! Their menu items have an English touch to it that not a lot of restaurants can capture.

The Perfect Combo is their idea of the English breakfast, with two eggs, plus a toast and two breakfast meats of your choice. Word to the wise, the Chicken Sausage is the way to go, but the good ol’ regular sausage can also do the trick.

Although Harry’s interior leaves much to be desired (it looks like an office canteen), they make up for it with the quality of their food. The ambient lighting more than makes up for it, and can net you some pretty nice shots of their nicely-presented meals.

Pro Tips:
There’s a 2-hour limit on Harry’s tables, especially during peak breakfast and lunch hours. Thus, we strongly suggest wrapping up your meals in an hour or under, otherwise you’ll be kicked out of their property.

9. Le café joséphine

Address: 201 E 20th St, Houston, TX 77008

Phone Number: 281-888-5130

Website

Hours: Monday – Sunday:  8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Yes, we understand that Le café joséphine’s name is French – but think about it this way: French chefs all over the world have continuously provided restaurant-grade food. Le café joséphine doesn’t stray for that, even with their English breakfast!

As you’d expect, Le café joséphine has a different twist on the traditional English breakfast. Compared to the combo of toast, eggs, and sausage, they go with Salmon Benedict. It’s different, but it’s a welcome (and delicious!) change.

Le café joséphine’s atmosphere also gives them a light and airy atmosphere as well. It can be a bit too drab for some with all the beige and whites, but it’s not so empty that you’ll feel like you’re sitting in an abandoned restaurant, either.

Pro Tips:
Le café joséphine closes their kitchen 20 minutes before their closing time. If you want to get their breakfast (and be of help to their crew as well), then we suggest dropping by after the lunch rush, ideally around 1:30 PM.

10. The Bull & Bear

Address: Kirkwood Market Place, 11980 Westheimer Rd Suite A, Houston, TX 77077

Phone Number: 281-496-6655

Website

Hours: Monday – Wednesday: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Thursday, Sunday: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM

Friday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 AM

Saturday: 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM

Although The Bull & Bear offers the typical English breakfast, they manage to make it charming by adding their razzle-dazzle to their food! The Sausage Rolls & Eggs is more like the stereotypical English breakfast but with less mushy and more flavorful beans.

However, if you want a Texas-sized English breakfast, then we recommend the Good Morning TWO You! It consists of two eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes, which is a doozy, especially if you request the bacon extra-crispy!

The Bull & Bear’s decor and overall atmosphere look like it’s straight from the UK too, which really brings the immersion to the next level. The tartan-print tablecloths might be a bit too Scottish for some, but all the wood decor makes it feel like a real British pub.p

Pro Tips:
The Bull & Bear takes the British Pub immersion to the next level since fights often break out within their property. Worse of all, it can happen to anyone, thus we suggest keeping to yourself to avoid having some unnecessary fights.
