best-family-therapy-houston

Experience and Credentials: I selected family therapy centers with licensed therapists and strong professional backgrounds. These include specializing in family dynamics, relationship conflicts, and parenting support.

Therapeutic Approach: I focused on providers who clearly explain their therapy methods, whether it’s evidence-based techniques or personalized treatment plans.

Family-Centered Care: I sought therapists who focus on creating a supportive, neutral environment where every family member feels heard and understood.

Positive Client Feedback: I looked for therapists who emphasize creating a supportive, neutral environment in which every family member feels heard and understood.

Flexible Scheduling: I included therapy centers that offer both in-person and virtual sessions, along with flexible appointment times to accommodate busy family schedules.

Watching families struggle to communicate or cope with major life changes can be heartbreaking. Whether it’s resolving conflicts or navigating transitions, the right therapist can make a meaningful difference.

Family therapy services help people reconnect and better understand one another. With guidance from the professionals, families can rebuild trust and develop healthier dynamics.

Of course, finding the right provider matters. So, here are some of my top options for family therapy in Houston. These centers are known for their experienced therapists who help families move forward together.

Finding a therapist who truly understands your family’s needs can be challenging, but Ellie Mental Health makes it easier. Since opening in 2015, they have spent nearly 9 years providing compassionate care to clients.

They offer more than just family therapy—they also provide grief counseling, trauma-informed therapy, couples counseling, and other forms of support.

I love how they take the time to understand preferences, goals, and schedules before finalizing the first session schedule.

Of the many programs they offer, 3 of them really stood out to me: Healing from the Narc, Life Skills Superstars, and Facing Grief Together. These help clients build skills, process emotions, and connect with others facing similar challenges.

One limitation here is that they do not cater to emergency or crisis services. So, it’s not a replacement for urgent care.

Nonetheless, another bonus is that online therapy is available, which adds convenience for busy schedules. Ellie Mental Health also accepts major insurance providers like Ambetter, Optum, and more.

Additionally, they are LegitScript-certified, so you can be confident in their credibility.

Pros

  • 9 years of industry experience
  • Wide range of mental health services
  • Personalized scheduling
  • Offers online therapy
  • Accepts major insurance
  • LegitScript-certified

Cons

  • No emergency or crisis services

I genuinely feel stronger, more grounded, and more hopeful

“I can’t say enough wonderful things about Ellie Mental Health and especially my therapist, Molly. From the moment I walked into the office, I felt at ease—the environment is so warm, inviting, and comforting that it immediately takes away the nerves of starting therapy.

It took me years to find the right therapist—someone who not only listened, but truly heard and understood me. With Molly, I finally feel seen. She creates such a safe space where I can be open and honest without fear of judgment. What makes her stand out is not just her compassion, but her ability to gently guide me through challenges in a way that feels supportive and empowering.

Molly has helped me work through so much, and I genuinely feel stronger, more grounded, and more hopeful because of her. Therapy here isn’t just about talking—it’s about real growth and healing. I’m incredibly grateful to have found both Ellie Mental Health and Molly, and I would recommend them to anyone searching for a place where you’ll truly be cared for.”

I felt a sense of comfort, trust, and understanding

“I started therapy with Molly a little over a year ago. Since the very first session I felt a sense of comfort, trust and understanding. Molly allowed me to grow and open up at my own pace, I truly attribute my continuous growth to her. Her kindness and gentle approach to each session always leaves me feeling at ease. Each session she continues to inspire me and guides me on my journey while allowing me to navigate through the trials of life in a way that makes me feel comfort and at the pace I wish to go. I was always so hesitant to go to therapy and after seeing Molly, I simply cannot imagine my life without it. I am so grateful for the last year of therapy, I attribute all my growth and success this past year to Molly, I have grown so much and it is evident to all my family and friends who know me well. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for me and to continue finding myself and celebrating those moments with Molly.”

I have to admit, Heights Family Counseling caught my attention. With busy schedules, having a practice that offers both in-person and telehealth appointments is a huge plus.

Led by Dr. Amy Rollo, who has over 15 years of experience, the center takes a systems-based approach to therapy.

They provide therapy for parents, couples, and teens. They also have play therapy, all of which is aimed at unifying the family, improving communication, and fostering harmony at home.

I love that collaborative care is at the core of their approach, ensuring each session is tailored to the family’s unique needs. They even provide a newsletter with mental health topics, resources, and events to support ongoing growth.

Heights Family Counseling also offers a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for clients not using insurance, so families know upfront what to expect in terms of costs.

One downside is that they do not accept insurance. They also operate on a private-pay basis only.

Pros

  • Dr. Amy Rollo has over 15 years of experience
  • Offers in-person and telehealth sessions
  • Wide range of therapy
  • Provides newsletters and resources
  • Ensures the GFE for costs

Cons

  • Does not accept insurance
  • Private-pay basis only

“I can’t recommend Heights Family Counseling enough! The team is warm, welcoming, and truly dedicated to helping families. My experience with them has been transformative, and I want to give a special shoutout to Kristin. She’s wonderful to work with when it comes to parenting and postpartum therapy. Some colleagues recommended Memorial Child & Family Therapy to me because of their focus on helping families work through emotional challenges together.

They have been serving Houston since 2016, so they already have several years of experience with the local families.

The owner, Michelle Collins, brings a personal background to the practice. Her journey into mental health started early because her brother was diagnosed with ADHD. She later pursued specialized training in anxiety, EMDR, and trauma counseling.

One thing I appreciate is that they offer services in Spanish. This honestly makes therapy more inclusive for non-English-speaking clients. Additionally, sessions can be held in person or virtually.

Another bonus? Sessions here start at around $78 for 50 minutes. This is fairly affordable compared to many therapy centers.

Unfortunately, like Heights Family Counseling, Memorial Child & Family Therapy does not accept insurance. So, clients should budget and prepare for private-pay sessions.

Pros

  • Serving Houston for 16 years
  • Offers in-person and virtual sessions
  • Offers sessions in Spanish
  • Affordable rates

Cons

  • Private-pay basis only
  • Does not accept insurance

Highly trained in helping families navigate challenging situations

“Highly recommend this practice!  Michelle Collins is experienced, a thoughtful listener, and highly trained in helping families navigate challenging situations. I wouldn’t hesitate to entrust any of our kids’ needs with Michelle.”

An exceptional listener who creates a safe and comfortable environment

“Highly recommend this practice. Specifically Ashlea– she is an exceptional listener and creates a safe and comfortable environment. She integrates a variety of therapeutic techniques to fit any need and she has a genuine ability to connect with her clients.”

What’s great about Eddins Counseling & Therapy Group is that they offer a wide variety of services. Beyond family therapy, there’s individual, couples, and career counseling.

Founded in 2015, they have spent over 15 years supporting clients in Houston through compassionate and inclusive care. I love that the practice is LGBTQ+ affirming, anti-racist, and a member of TherapyDen. This makes it welcoming to people from all backgrounds.

They are also affiliated with Mental Health Match and Find Black Therapist, which helps clients easily find providers that fit their needs.

Another plus is their comprehensive self-help library. It includes tests, support groups, and free e-courses. This is a great resource for anyone not yet ready for formal therapy.

However, despite all the great services, it’s a bit disappointing that prices aren’t listed on their website. It may be a hassle for some people on a budget who want to try their services.

Pros

  • Over 15 years of client support
  • LGBTQ+ affirming
  • Focuses on an anti-racist approach
  • Affiliated with Mental Health Match
  • Affiliated with Find Black Therapist

Cons

  • No prices listed on their website

I feel like I have my son back now

“Rebecca is beyond amazing! Her extensive knowledge of trauma and pediatric therapeutic approaches , genuine kindness and creation of a safe place have helped my 7 yo son more than I can express. He immediately trusted and felt safe with Rebecca and I have seen his temperament and behavior regulate dramatically in a positive direction. I feel like I now have my son back!  She routinely goes above and beyond to check in on my son and I to provide resources and encouragement. I cannot recommend Rebecca highly enough.”

I felt like I really had control over things in my life

“I normally do not write reviews but I had to share my recent experience with Eddins Counseling.  I have been to therapists in the past to try and manage ongoing anxiety but was always met with the same approach, they did well listening but I did not feel that I was provided tools to help me manage the anxiety day to day.  I took the chance again and found Eddins Counseling through the suggestion of a friend.  I was impressed with the counselor as soon as I met with her the first time.  She came across as warm and caring yet professional.  I knew from the beginning that this experience was going to be different.  After a couple of meetings, she helped me understand what was driving my issues but also gave me practical exercises to help actively manage situations.  It was the first time I felt like I really had control over things in my life.  I would highly recommend Eddins Counseling to others that appreciate compassionate counselors that help and a practice that is easy to do business with (I could easily make an appointment without waiting all day for a call back).”

Psychotherapy by Dr. Angelina stands out for offering an integrative approach. She combines traditional talk therapy with creative methods.

Dr. Angelina Rodriguez brings over 20 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families. She helps clients navigate through grief, anxiety, depression, and many other issues.

I love her approach. She incorporates depth psychology alongside journaling, meditation, and expressive arts therapy. Clients can then explore emotions through music, poetry, and even acting.

The practice also provides psychosocial evaluations, making it suitable for those seeking both therapeutic guidance and professional assessments.

Sessions are tailored to the individual or group, offering flexibility for different needs. They also offer said sessions in-person or virtually for convenience.

However, one limitation is that the center does not handle emergency psychosis cases. Urgent support should seek crisis services elsewhere if these moments occur.

Pros

  • Over 20 years of experience
  • Combines talk therapy with creative methods
  • Provides depth psychology, journaling, and more
  • Offers in-person and virtual sessions

Cons

  • Does not handle emergency psychosis cases

I was able to make great progress

“My experience with Results Physiotherapy was great!. The staff was excellent, caring, and patient. Dr. Angelina provided me great feedback and very descriptive examples of how to perform the exercises necessary for my recovery. As a result, I was able to make great progress. I highly recommend their services. Thank you Dr. Angelina for being there for me when I was most vulnerable.”

She helped me to feel better about myself with her kind words

“I will readily recommend Angelina to my family and friends. She was thorough in her questions and investigations. She helped me to feel better about myself with her kind words.

After my session with her, I knew there is hope at the end of the tunnel after all.

Kudos!!!”
