Pros
- Affordable prices
- Good variety of Klobanisks and Kolaches
- Fresh-made daily
- Croissants are available, too!
Cons
- Closes early on Sundays
One of the more established Kolaches shops in Houston, The Original Kolache Shoppe has been the go-to standard for a long time now – and for a good reason! And with their freshly baked, affordable pastries, we understand why!
Their fresh Klobanskis are good and for $3 for a single piece of their Sausage and Cheese Klobanskis are more than worth it. But we’re here for their Kolaches – and the Sweet Cottage Cheese is a great choice if you’re on a diet.
What goes with kolaches? You’re right, coffee – and paying $5.25 for their large Iced Latte is a steal! Their house blend has a unique flavor profile that stands out, and it’s the perfect cup to start your day with.
The only thing we don’t appreciate as much about The Original Kolache Shoppe is that they close early on Sundays. Closing at 1 PM on Sundays might not sound drastic, but it’s still a bit of a miss if you want a taste of their pastries on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
But if you ask us? We understand – especially when they have more to offer than just their kolaches! The Original Kolache Shoppe also has plenty of other desserts like croissants and turnovers, and we like their Bavarian Cream with Fudge Turnover!

Pros
- Consistent throughout all their branches
- Great variety on Kolaches
- The Party tray is perfect for sharing
- The Flavor of the Month is an exciting twist
Cons
- Pastries are displayed in an open-air environment
What we like the most about Kolache Factory the most is the fact that even if they have plenty of branches scattered all over Houston (there are 25 in Houston alone!), they still provide a consistent flavor profile in their Kolaches!
Not only do they have lots of branches all over Houston, they also have lots of variety on their Kolaches, too! From more traditional fruit-filled Kolaches to more savory, Polish sausage-filled ones. Both are good, but the traditional, peach-filled ones are our pick.
But if you’re looking for a different twist on Kolaches, then we suggest trying out their Flavor of the Month! As of the time of writing, their January ones are filled with breakfast goodies like eggs and sausages which is as delicious as it sounds.
That being said, we don’t quite appreciate that Kolache Factory puts their pastries on an open-air display, which means that the kolaches you’ll be buying can be a bit tough. It’s a bit of a guessing game, so pick out the farthest one to make sure it’s fresh!
Kolache Factory offers other pastries if you’re not in the mood for Kolaches though, and they’re good but not as good as their signature. We suggest trying out their Strudel Nik if you’re looking for something flaky and sweet compared to their fluffy Kolaches.

Pros
- Good variety on menu
- Great for breakfasts
- Convenient location
- Good flavor profile on Kolaches
Cons
- Seasonal fruit Kolaches
Yes, the title of Kolaches King might make them sound pretentious – but then again, most Kolaches in Houston don’t provide the same variety and flavor as them, so we may have little choice but to accept!
We have to commend Kolaches King on their Kolaches’ flavor profile. Everything is made right and the pastry is fluffy, too. They specialize in savory Kolaches, and the Double Breakfast Sausage, Egg, & Cheese is a complete standout for us.
The savory Kolaches are great, but we also have to give props to their breakfast options, too! The Beast is truly a beast – it’s a huge piece of pastry with even bigger portions of meat! The potatoes can take out the flavor a bit, but it evens it out nicely.
The only thing we don’t appreciate as much about Kolaches King is their seasonal fruit Kolaches, aka some of their fruit Kolaches are only available on certain days. They’re good, but if you’re craving peach Kolaches, you’ll need to wait ‘til they’re on-season.
But if you’re not looking for fruit Kolaches at the moment, then we strongly recommend visiting Kolaches King personally. And since they’re located only a couple of streets away from the local Krogers, they’re pretty conveniently located, too!

Pros
- Gourmet kolaches are a must-try
- Good twist on Kolaches
- Donuts are available
- Affordable prices
Cons
- No traditional fruit Kolaches
Although Karma Kolache & Dessert offers great twists on Kolaches, they also have specialty donuts and delicious coffees for you to try out, too – and the best part is, you won’t have to spend more than $6 on a single item!
Our pick from their menu? Yes, their Bacon, Egg & Cheese Kolaches is the #1 most liked menu item on their website but the Cheeseburger Kolaches is our personal favorite!
But if you’re not feeling savory, then their donuts match the flavor, too! Their ½ Dozen Donuts come in different assorted flavors and are one of their best sellers for a reason. But if you don’t feel like eating 6 donuts, their Long John Eclair is good, too.
The only thing that we don’t appreciate as much about Karma Kolache & Dessert is that they don’t have traditional fruit Kolaches. That’s not really a big con for us, but it can still be a miss if you went there expecting a traditional option.
If you don’t mind the lack of fruit Kolaches though, then we can’t recommend Karma Kolache & Dessert enough, thanks to the coffees that pair well with everything on their menu. Their house Iced Koffee is a gem, and is a steal for $4.99!

Pros
- Opens early in the morning
- Sweet and Savory variations available
- Breakfast Kolaches are a must-try
- Unique coffees
Cons
- Closed on Mondays
Good Kolaches? Check. Unique coffee options? Check. Affordable prices? Check, check, check. Kolache Shoppe ticks all the boxes for being the ideal Kolache shops in Houston. And if you ask us? It’s not an unfounded claim at all!
However, we do have to start with a warning – Kolache Shoppe is closed on Mondays. So if you’re thinking about trying out any of the items we list here or ordering their items online, then you’re better off finding other Kolaches in Houston to start your week.
With that out of the way, we have to bring you up to speed on their Kolaches – specifically, their Chocolate, Cherries & Cream Kolache. It’s a unique twist on the traditional Kolache, without turning it savory which is a very welcome taste for us.
Then again, Kolache Shoppe also doesn’t fall short with their savory options too! Their breakfast-style, Brisket, Egg, Cheddar, & Jalapeno complements the fluffy Kolache pastry well, but if you’re on a diet then their Ranchero, Egg & Cheese can do.
Combine any of these options with their Bourbon Toffee Nut Latte, and you’ll be starting your day with a smile. The Bourbon Toffee Nut Latte has a little trace of alcohol in it (as the name suggests) so we advise to be a bit careful before trying it out.
