Pros
- Long-term care
- Medication management
- Diabetes care
- Spacious apartments
- Pet-friendly
- Plenty of amenities
Cons
- Fees are typically over six grand
Parkway Place is a high-end retirement home in Houston, Texas that offers a full range of care services. At least, that’s what many we’ve spoken to claim.
First of all, we noted during our nursing home tour that the home’s open, spacious common areas are decorated in soothing neutral tones. These help make residents feel at home while allowing them to maintain their level of independence and mobility.
We also liked the variety of senior care options, including assisted living, memory care, long-term care, and temporary respite care.
Help with ADLs, mobility, medication management, diabetes care, incontinence care, and more are offered around the clock from the staff.
Furthermore, the apartments we saw at Parkway were plentiful and spacious, making them ideal for those who value privacy and peace & quiet.
The apartments have spacious living areas, plenty of windows for natural lighting, individual bathrooms with walk-in showers, and kitchens or kitchenettes.
What’s more, our visit showed the place to be quite lively. The following were available on the premises:
- Restaurants
- Boutiques
- Barbershops
- Beauty salons
- A gym
- Garden plots
- A workshop
- A movie theater
- A woodshop
- A craft center
- An outdoor pool
Additionally, the nursing home’s staff provides housekeeping, errand running, free transportation, a complete calendar of enrichment activities, and more. They welcome small pets too.
However, the downside is that they require residents to pay a hefty payment of over six grand for assisted living and access to all these amenities.
2. The Reserve at Braeswood
Website: The Reserve at Braeswood
Address: 7800 N Stadium Dr, Houston, TX 77030
Contact Info: +1 713-714-6269
Google Reviews Score | 4.3/5 |
Facebook Reviews Score | 5/5 |
Total Reviews | 4.5/5 |
Score Consistency | 4.5/5 |
Cuisine | 4/5 |
Safety | 4.7/5 |
Staff Sufficiency | 5/5 |
Friendliness and Atmosphere | 5/5 |
Pros
- Affordable rates
- Specialize in memory impairment care
- Twenty-four hour emergency system
Cons
- No active monitoring
- Typical cafeteria food
The Reserve at Braeswood was described to us as a commonly selected nursing home among locals in Houston because of its affordable rates and central location.
True to the claims, we found that it was more on a reasonable scale for nursing home prices when we inquired about a standard room.
We also liked how The Reserve is easy to find and not too far from the city centre (good for those who don’t want a long commute every time they visit their relatives).
What’s more, families who transition their older relatives here have their pick between a studio, a one-bedroom, or a two-bedroom apartment. Each one has stainless steel kitchen appliances, natural stone counters, ample storage space, and a laundry room.
Anyway, one of the first things we noted during our tour of the nursing home is that they specifically cater to older people with memory impairment rather than general elderly residents like a typical nursing home.
Still, as a senior living community, The Reserve provides excellent care in a stimulating setting. We liked how the trained professionals here can help with anything from memory care to helping you get dressed in the morning.
Furthermore, we liked how the staff have a twenty-four-hour emergency call system and a nursing and wellness staff to keep residents safe.
However, in the available rooms we observed, there was a lack of active monitoring (such as cameras) in the patients’ rooms. Additionally, the meals we caught a glimpse of looked like typical cafeteria fare instead of nutritious meals.
Despite this, we noted that the staff are meticulous in cleaning the facility and are friendly to family visiting their elderly loved ones.
We also liked that residents can take advantage of a wide range of specialized amenities and health initiatives in addition to standard services. For example, they can take advantage of the movie theater, arcade, massage, art studio, and more.
3. The Heritage of Meyerland

Staff Sufficiency | 4.7/5 |
Friendliness and Atmosphere | 5/5 |
Pros
- Good hospitals are within driving distance
- Memory care
- Ambulatory care
- Staffing & ancillary services
Cons
- Expensive rates without insurance
The Heritage of Meyerland is an inviting and bright assisted living community for older people that focuses on providing care for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
However, the price tag for living at The Heritage is by no means for seniors without insurance. This may be because the Houston Veterans Administration Medical Center and other hospitals are within driving distance of this nursing home.
Hence, it is easier for residents to access the highest quality medical care. For example, seniors with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease receive individualized care from professionals.
We like how the nursing community at The Heritage also provides various care options, including memory care, assisted living, and short-term respite stays.
Services such as medication management and help with daily tasks are just two examples of the plethora of options available to seniors who benefit from individualized care plans.
The Heritage also provides a range of housing alternatives, including independent and shared quarters. Several communal spaces and organized activities are available.
Seniors have a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces to gather, including private courtyards and large community rooms. Mealtimes and regular activities like cooking and community outings are designed to facilitate interaction between residents.
Moreover, each staff member treats the residents with warmth and friendliness. What we think is a nice touch, though, is that the nursing staff here frequently take seniors living here on outdoor trips to help with their memory.

Pros
- Memory care treatment
- Uses air purification tech
- Pet-friendly
- Use innovative technologies
Cons
- Understaffed
The Shores at Clear Lake is a Grace Management community located in a quiet corner of South Shore Harbor. It provides assisted living, memory care, and temporary housing for people 55+ years old.
We liked how contemporary interiors, a range of private and semi-private apartment houses, and Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization (NPBITM) air purification technology can all be found in this pet-friendly, multi-story neighborhood for the elderly.
Residents have access to various services and amenities, including a beautiful cafe and a picturesque courtyard, individualized health and wellness programs, and a full calendar of life enrichment activities.
Furthermore, we liked how those living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia can take advantage of the memory care neighborhood’s emphasis on familiar surroundings and sensory clues to encourage autonomy and individuality.
This home also uses an innovative method called The Village Program® and innovative technology called It’s Never 2 Late to personalize participants’ everyday experiences to reflect their interests and activities of choice.
However, despite all of these things we noted that the place is a little understaffed. Therefore, it’s not a guarantee that residents will receive immediate individual attention from the nursing staff.

Cons

Brookdale The Heights, a nursing facility, provides timely assistance to both residents’ loved ones and the residents themselves.
We like how the professional staff here helps people on their unique paths by providing individualized care, nutritious meals, tidy living quarters, and fun activities.
They have one-bedroom apartments, studios, and semi-private rooms available for the elderly, all of which can be personalized with the help of visiting relatives. They can also provide aid in the transition to assisted living for families.
Moreover, they cater to all kinds of senior citizens. Dementia patients in the early, middle, and late phases, for instance, can benefit from the facility’s specialized programming and regular caregiving staff.
We also like that nurses and other staff at Brookdale are available around the clock to check on residents and help with tasks like medicine administration, bathing, and grooming, among other things.
However, an emergency alert system is also employed to provide comfort in case of an unexpected event.
The assortment of exciting activities and convenient services available to seniors at Brookdale is especially noteworthy. Activities like bowling, a pizza club, game evenings, and brain fitness sessions are just a few examples.
We also like that the seniors who reside here are not bound by any kind of rigid routine.
Seniors can spend quiet evenings reading in the library or relaxing in front of the fireplace in the living room. Guests can use the communal room to arrange special events for the seniors’ friends and family.
A barber/beauty shop, postal services, and a therapy room are also offered to residents.
The Personal Solutions program is something else that stands out to us about Brookdale. Delivery of resident-requested products, such as toilet paper and shampoo, is provided at no additional charge.
