The 7 Best Optometrists In Houston

The 5 Best Optometrists In Houston Homepage

How We Picked

Well Trained: We chose this as a criterion because it is essential to select an optometrist that has the necessary skills, training, and education in all forms of eye care. Although qualifications are required, they aren’t everything, so we also looked at experience.
Equipment and Technology: There have been many advancements in technology in the eyecare field, so we looked for optometrists using modern technologies.
Focus on Patient Care:  We chose this as a criterion because putting patients first should be the goal in any healthcare field.
Eye Care Services and Products:  We chose this because choosing an optometrist that provides most eye care services and products is more convenient for the customer.

As we stepped through the door of Eyebar Houston, we knew we were in for an experience like no other.

Right away, we were greeted warmly at the door by the front desk receptionist, who handed us glasses of bubbly. She even assigned a personal valet to cater to any needs we had.

While we waited to see Dr. Sheena Garner, we experienced pampering at its finest. Not only did our skin feel refreshed after the complimentary facials, but we were impressed by the makeovers we received from the in-store makeup artist.

Now, we were told botox is also offered, but do note that it is at an extra charge.

Nevertheless, by the time we met Dr. Garner, we were utterly relaxed. We were relieved of any anxieties drifting around in our minds.

While she inquired about the current issues we had been experiencing with our eyes, we were drawn to her patient and kind personality.

She thoroughly listened to all of our concerns and addressed any questions. In other words, talking to Dr. Garner felt like we were talking to a friend.

Before our visit, no other optometrist we had been to had been able to give us an accurate diagnosis. However, much to our surprise, Dr. Sheena Garter caught an undetected muscle alignment within seconds after examining our eyes.

They have efficient state-of-the-art technology we haven’t seen anywhere else!

At the end of our time with Dr. Garner, she gave us some extra tips and advice on how to keep our eyes healthy! Dr. Garner then assisted us in picking out glasses that flatter our faces.

She also pointed out the extra accessories, such as earrings and mask and eyewear chains.

When it was time for us to go, the lady at the front desk suggested we try using our health insurance to get a discount. Much to our relief, we received fifty percent off of our total!

While the knowledge of everyone impressed us, what stood out to us the most was how we could genuinely feel their care for our well-being, not as a patient but as a person.

We have no doubt that we will be returning to Eyebar Houston for another luxurious experience.

Sometimes visiting the eye doctor can be nerve-wracking, but that wasn’t the case for us when we went to Montrose Eye Care.

When we entered inside, we were greeted with friendly smiles from all around. Although the other opticians were attending to patients, they didn’t fail to notice us coming in.

As the receptionist gathered our paperwork together, we browsed around the store, looking at the immense variety of frames. By the way, we took note of one of the staff members sanitizing everything in the store, from the chair handles in the lobby to the display cases.

To our surprise, we were called in to see Dr. Lovero in less than ten minutes. As we passed through the hallway, we couldn’t resist asking him how the newest optomap and nerolens machine worked.

We appreciated how he thoroughly explained everything to us. Not to mention, due to their latest equipment, there was no need to dilate our eyes.

Within seconds, Dr. Lovero spotted our dry eye and questioned us about whether we had been treating it. We then explained to him how we had been using artificial tears.

As he patiently explained that we had been given incorrect advice, his knowledge as an experienced optometric glaucoma specialist came through. He then gave us a new diagnosis and recommended a treatment plan to address glaucoma in our eyes.

To help us understand the difference between glaucoma and dry eye, he showed us pictures of the two conditions compared with images of our eyes.

Dr. Lovero was also kind enough to walk us out to the front lobby, where we were assisted in ordering contact lenses.

Although we were disappointed that there were no contact lenses available at the store, we still left grateful because of the knowledge we had gained from Dr. Lovero.

We had terrible experiences with other optometrists before, so we didn’t know what to expect when we walked into Texas Eye Center. Yet the staff’s welcoming, friendly, and inviting smiles made us feel at ease.

Nevertheless, we hadn’t planned on waiting for over an hour to be seen—take note we had scheduled an appointment before this.

We first inquired about contact lenses, but we were told there was an extra charge if we were to have a contact lens fitting.

So, while we waited in the lobby for our appointment with the optometrist, we checked out a few different glasses frames. To our surprise, most of the glasses we tried on had scratches on the lenses.

When we finally met Dr. Bereket Tsegai, he had an optician come in and give us a few standard eye tests. Soon afterward, he returned with a review of our patient history and a full assessment of our eye health and vision.

Once the optician left the room, Dr. Bereket Tsegai kindly informed us that the issues we had been experiencing with depth perception were due to monovision. Honestly, we were taken back because our previous optometrist had never made us aware of this issue.

If he hadn’t walked us through the different options available, we would not have known what steps to take next. Thankfully, Dr. Tsegai let us know we were a candidate for LASIK.

Although he doesn’t do LASIK eye surgery himself, he gave us a referral to the LASIK surgery center that Texas Eye Center works closely together with. He then walked us out to the lobby and helped us schedule a pre-operative care appointment, that is, if we decide to do the LASIK surgery.

We’ve been wearing contacts for years, so we’re no stranger to visiting an optometrist’s office. But, after headache after headache, we figured it might be best to switch to glasses.

However, we were new to Houston, and we weren’t exactly sure where to go. But thankfully, we found out about West Houston Eye.

Upon our first visit to West Houston Eye, children ran past us, excited to choose a pair of glasses. The children’s parents and the opticians trailed behind, lost in conversation. The smiles from all around sucked us into the positive atmosphere of the office.

As we sat in the waiting room, filling out the need forms, we noticed a majority of the staff was wearing masks. Fortunately for us, though, we didn’t have to wait too long to be seen by the optometrist, Dr. Rhodes.

Not even five minutes into our eye exam did Dr. Rhodes point out we had been wearing ill-fitting contact lenses. She then explained to us through pictures of different eye conditions the possible reasons we were given a misdiagnose.

Afterward, she took the time to fit us with toric lenses, proper for astigmatism. She even guaranteed us our headaches should go away within the day.

Unfortunately, we did have to pay an extra fee for the contact lens fitting. Still, we are happy to say Dr. Rhodes was right about our headaches disappearing.

When we came to Eye Care Associates, we were rushing to return to work. We hadn’t considered the wait time despite us having a prior appointment.

Thankfully, the women at the front desk were kind about our request to see the optometrist earlier. So we appreciate how they quickly accommodated our appointment.

It wasn’t long before we were able to meet with Dr. Sylva. She had us take off our contact and led us to the optomap.

Soon after, she showed us the images from the optomap of our retinas. But unlike other eye doctors we had been to before, she thoroughly explained that our eyes were being deprived of oxygen due to our constant use of contacts.

However, she did not recommend we just take out our contacts more often. Instead, she advised us to change brands and use daily contact lenses since they breathe better.

Not only this, but Dr. Sylva corrected our prescription and helped us pick out a backup pair of glasses.

Unfortunately, we were charged a consultation fee, and their services are more expensive than other places. But we were grateful to be able to meet with Dr. Sylva sooner than our appointment time.

Thanks to Dr. Sylva’s help, we can see more clearly now!

Pros

  • Over 40 years of experience
  • Offers quality, luxury eyeglass brands
  • Available 6 days a week
  • There’s a restaurant nearby

Cons

  • Rates may be higher than others
  • Unavailable on Mondays

With a combined experience of 40 years, Eye Boutique became one of our recommendations for your next optometrist in Houston.

They can fit any pair of glasses with your current prescription. We like that they can provide contact lenses to accommodate more prospects, too.

What’s more, they can repair and adjust your glasses during their normal business hours if that’s all you need.

We’re also in awe of their top designer brands. Some of these are Givenchy, Prada, Tom Ford, DITA, PHILIPP PLEIN, Fendi, and more.

While the prices of these eyeglasses are on the higher end, we believe that these brands can provide high-quality options that will last.

Their glasses or routine eye exam costs $79, which is a tad higher than the average as well. But to compensate, their follow-up visits are free.

For these, we suggest booking on their website ahead of time to make sure you get a spot and avoid any hassle.

Keep in mind that Eye Boutique is open most days of the week, except on Mondays. Their location is also conveniently next to The Cookshack, a chicken restaurant, when you get hungry afterwards.
