1. Moon Tower Inn

Address: 3004 Canal St, Houston, TX 77003

Phone Number: 713-534-1325

Website

Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM

Friday – Saturday: 11:00 AM – 1:00 AM

Located in Houston’s illustrious East End, Moon Tower Inn has been serving Houstonians with quality bar food – with a matching ambiance to boot! They’ve been around for a decade, after all – so they know a thing or two about what the locals like!

Moon Tower Inn’s beautiful outdoor patio matches its astounding beer options, so it’s perfect to chill out and have a drink with your pals. We absolutely love the upbeat, lively atmosphere here.

Although their Steaks can take quite a while to be served, it’s a minor inconvenience considering their flavor. Especially when you consider that you can get them on Steak Nights with a side of Loaded Potatoes to go with it!

Pro Tips:
Since Moon Tower Inn is completely open air, it can be a hassle when it suddenly rains during your visit. We suggest bringing a mini coat with you during the monsoon season or plan your visit accordingly.

2. Axelrad

Address: 1517 Alabama St, Houston, TX 77004

Phone Number: 713-597-8800

Website

Hours: Monday – Saturday:  2:00 PM – 12:00 AM

Sunday: 12:00 PM – 12:00 AM

A staple when it comes t o Houston’s outdoor bar scene, Axelrad provides Houstonians with a good place to relax! They have plenty of drinks on tap, hammocks for you to hang out in, and, depending on the day, great musical guests!

What makes Axelrad’s musical guests unique is the fact that they host a wide variety of music genres. One day, you can have a relaxing time enjoying jazz, and another dancing the night away with EDM!

Axelrad also has a good list of drinks to match their musical performances! The Sun’s Comin’ Up, or their twist on a Moscow Mule, is a good first drink if you’re a first-timer. Otherwise, the Te Quila Mucho is a good pick if you want something strong.

Pro Tips:
Axelrad is not very wheelchair accessible, especially in the stage area. It’s surrounded by sand and gravel, which can be challenging to traverse. There is a pavement on the other side, but it’s a lot farther from the stage area.

3. Boheme

Address: 307 Fairview St, Houston, TX 77006

Phone Number: 832-462-7455

Website

Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM

Friday – Saturday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 AM

This one is for the brunch girlies – if you’re looking for a good Houston outdoor bar where Houston drag icons regularly perform, then we suggest visiting Boheme*! Think of them as an LGBTQIA+ Bar brunch spot but with plenty of specialty nights in the mix.

Though Boheme’s Drag Brunch every Sunday has a cover fee of $40 per person, it’s a buffet so you can eat your fill. The event is also rain or shine, so you can go no matter what the weather is like!

But if you’re not in the mood for a drag brunch, then Boheme also has Latin Nights with Grupo Kache! Bottle Service costs $150, but they make sure that the entire patio is as lively as possible with excellent Latin music and an overall fun time!

Pro Tips:
If you plan to visit Boheme’s Drag Brunch, we strongly suggest tipping the performers there! The general tip would be a dollar, but if you were impressed by their tips and tricks then it’s okay to hand them a $20 bill!

4. Grand Prize

Phone Number: 713-526-4566

Hours: Monday – Sunday:  4:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Drag shows, mimosas, and great food – Grand Prize is a full LGBTQIA+ Bar, minus the brunch! You’ll also be sitting outside, which makes watching every performance that much more fun and entertaining.

Grand Prize also offers stunning drink options for you to choose from, like the Baja Blaster that’s only available during the summertime. They also have Pork Soda wines available during their Happy Hour which happens daily from 4 PM to 8 PM.

We like that they have an active Instagram page where they frequently post their events. As of the time of writing, they have the aforementioned drag brunch along with Taco Tuesdays, too!

Pro Tips:
Grand Prize IDs all of their guests, regardless if you’re over 21. We strongly suggest bringing an ID with you, either a driver’s license or some other form of valid ID for your visit.

Thursday, Sunday:  12:00 PM – 12:00 AM

Friday – Saturday:  12:00 PM – 2:00 AM

If you’re ever on the lookout for a unique outdoor bar in Houston, then look no further than EaDo’s Truck Yard! It’s one part bar, one part amusement park, and an all around  good time – especially after 9 PM!

During the day, Truck Yard is your average place to have meals. Some find that it can be a bit too hot, especially during the Houston heat.

However, past 9 PM is when all the fun comes out – and when people under 21 are no longer allowed on their property! Truck Yard’s evening drink menu consists of everything from locally sourced Beer to Seasonal specials, along with some flask cocktails, too!

Although Truck Yard only has cheesesteaks and nachos on its regular menu, they do have a regular rotation of food trucks that offer a better variety! House of Hoopz BBQ is always present on Mondays, but Satellite of Pizza is present on certain weekends.

Pro Tips:
Truck Yard doesn’t have a designated parking lot, and the nearest one will cost $2 for 2 hours. There’s a free parking spot nearby though, but you’ll have to walk for 5 minutes beforehand.

6. Social Beer Garden HTX

Address: 3101 San Jacinto St, Houston, TX 77004

Phone Number: 713-636-9357

Website

Hours: Monday – Thursday: 3:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Friday – Sunday: 12:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Social Beer Garden HTX is one of our top picks because they have one of the largest drink selections and fantastically chic lighting during the evenings.

Rare Bourbons, Rare Japanese Whiskeys, and Rare Ryes are just the start of the equation with Social Garden HTX’s drink options. They also have a good selection of locally sourced craft beers that you can choose from!

Social Garden HTX’s stellar drink options match their patio’s beautiful ambiance. The lawn chairs in front of the trees offer a pleasant drinking experience. When you add the ambient lighting they offer, you’re up for a night that you’ll surely remember!

Pro Tips:
Though Social Garden HTX has a great vibe, there can be a long waiting line even if there’s plenty of space inside. We suggest dropping by earlier, ideally between 8 PM and 9 PM or starting your bar crawl there!

7. Patterson Park Patio Bar

With an electric atmosphere and a fun vibe, Pattinson Park Patio Bar’s unique rooftop seating makes for an endearing outdoor bar that you can visit on your night out! They even have specialty events where you can let your hair down once in a while!

The Fun Trivia and Steak Nights every Thursday become 10 times more enjoyable when it’s on their rooftop! Visiting them every Friday and Saturday evening means that you’re in time for their Reverse Happy Hour where you can get good discounts on their drinks.

What goes well with a fun, exciting time at an outdoor bar? You’re right – drinks – and Patterson Park Patio Bar has plenty of good drinks for you to choose from as well. We recommend the Tiki Rita and the Nitro Espresso Martini for the most kick!

Pro Tips:
We suggest visiting Patterson Patio Bar either via Uber or your car. Though they have bike racks on their property, it’s not located in a safe space – unless you have a bike lock.

8. Heights Bier Garten

Address: 1433 N Shepherd Dr, Houston, TX 77008

Phone Number: 713-862-4940

Website

Hours: Monday – Friday: 3:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Saturday – Sunday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 AM

Did you know Bier Garten directly translates to “Beer Garden”? If you want a taste of an authentic, Oktoberfest-like beer experience, then this bar is for you!

The wooden seats along with the faux wells give Heights Bier Garten an authentic vibe straight from Germany. Their drink selection gives the bar an Oktoberfest-esque vibe, with stellar options like DuClaw Palomania and Great Heights My Maria.

Although Heights Bier Garten is predominantly German-inspired, they’re more like a Matryoshka Doll since there’s a bar inside it! Worcester’s Annex offers a more sophisticated drink choice, with 60 house cocktails for you to choose from!

Pro Tips:
The wells on either side of the wooden seats at Heights Bier Garten aren’t that deep, but it can still be a hazard when you’re a bit sloshed out on their drinks. There’s still a risk of toppling over your drinks, so remember to be extra careful!

9. Monkey’s Tail

Address: 5802 Fulton St, Houston, TX 77009

Phone Number: 713-842-7188

Website

Hours: Monday – Wednesday: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM

Thursday: 4:00 PM – 1:30 AM

Friday – Saturday: 2:00 PM – 1:30 AM

Sunday: 2:00 PM – 12:00 AM

Creative drinks and a cozy atmosphere are the name of the game when it comes to Monkey’s Tail. Whether you go to their Lindale Park or Conroe location, the experience is still the same!

The chic atmosphere is thanks to their pretty ambient lighting, and you can choose to sit on either wooden benches or sturdy, plastic lawn chairs. In our experience though, the benches are more secure, especially since there’s a place to put your drinks down.

Monkey’s Tail also has a bunch of original cocktails for those looking for a different twist on their drinks! The Fool’s Gold Rush is a nice strong drink, but the Peppino Sour is also a good pick. You can even ask your bartender to add some salt or tajin!

Pro Tips:
Monkey’s Tail’s WiFi can be wonky at times. And since they take their orders via QR code, they might not be able to take your orders on certain days. This usually happens during the evening on weekends, so keep that in mind.

10. Wicklow Heights

Address: 1027 W 19th St, Houston, TX 77008

Phone Number: 713-874-8441

Website

Hours: Monday – Thursday: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM

Friday: 2:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Saturday: 12:00 PM – 2:00 AM

Sunday: 12:00 PM  – 11:00 PM

If you ever want to have bar-quality drinks while feeling like you’re at your home , then Wicklow Heights is what you’re looking for. The posh, home-like atmosphere provides a beautiful experience that’s both comforting and fun at the same time.

Happy Hour enthusiasts will have lots of fun at Wicklow Heights, since their Happy Hour starts the moment they open until 6 PM daily. You can get drinks half-off, which is a good thing since their signature cocktails, like the Garden Party, are fabulous!

Wicklow Heights also has plenty of bar food options for you to pick from as well, with the standard Wings and Mozzarella Sticks on their menu. However, they’ve also sprinkled in their specials like the Wicklow Smash Burger thrown in there as well for some variety.

Pro Tips:
Wicklow Heights and Cedar Creek share the same parking lot, and if you accidentally park at Cedar Creek instead then you may get your car towed. We suggest double-checking the signs to not get your car impounded!
