Pros
- Juicy brisket
- Flavorful ribs
- Delicious barbecue sauces
- Helpful customer service
- Black owned business
Cons
- Watery mac & cheese
Rays Real Pit BBQ Shack is a black owned business that claims to take pit BBQ to the next level. Many customers have raved to us about their sausage links, and brisket potato.
We’ve also heard great things about their customer service. Based on our experience at Ray’s Real Pit BBQ, their customer service was not only helpful, but friendly too.
By the way, the prices were reasonable for their medium portion sizes and the wait time to receive our orders wasn’t long.
We ordered the catfish and shrimp, the chopped brisket potato, the brisket sandwich, and the three meat plate with sausage, ribs, and brisket. We also grabbed the mac & cheese and the dirty rice on the side.
Their ribs and brisket were juicy and flavorful. Whereas their sausage links had an authentic homemade taste to them.
We liked how all of their meats had a smokey flavor to them. Including the catfish and shrimps, which were both tasty and well-seasoned.
Their barbecue sauces were delicious and not too sweet or overwhelming when poured over the brisket and the ribs. Moreover, we liked how the brisket potato was filling, and flavorful but not too overpowering.
The dirty rice was not too salty or under seasoned either. However, the mac and cheese lacked flavor and had a watery consistency.

Pros
- Tender ribs
- Tangy BBQ sauce
- Quick turnaround time
Cons
- Bland green beans
- Mushy mac & cheese
- Limited parking
First of all, when we came to The Pit Room, it was difficult to find parking. We had to drive around in circles looking for parking since it gets so crowded.
On the outside of The Pit Room they offer a spacious patio for those who would rather dine outside. Inside The Pit Room the atmosphere is laid back, yet it can get bustling with customers depending on what time of day you go.
Although there was a long wait to get a table, the turnaround time for our food was less than thirty minutes.
All of the smoked meats we tried had the proper amount of smoke and flavor. The ribs were tasty and so tender they practically slipped off the bone.
Both the brisket and the chicken we ordered too were cooked to perfection. The brisket had a subtle spicy flavor and it was easy to chew.
They had a limited selection of barbecue sauces, but the ones they had were tangy and spicy.
Their mac and cheese was not to our liking. It was salty and the noodles were mushy.
Furthermore, their green beans had no flavor at all. We did however, like their street corn, buttery, charred, and flavorful.
Do note though: there is an after taste after eating it. It’s not unpleasant, but is unusual enough that it’s worth mentioning.

Pros
- Fall-apart ribs
- Delicious mac & cheese
- Tender brisket
Cons
- Expensive prices
Many have raved to us about Roegels Barbecue Co because of their informative customer service, brisket, sausages and their variety of sides.
True to the claims of others, when we went to Roegels Barbecue Co, the staff member behind the counter was knowledgeable about the different dishes on their menu.
We had the option of choosing from a variety of dish sizes depending on how hungry we were or ordering by the cut or by the pound. We ended up ordering the brisket, sausages, ribs and some of their classic sides.
There was a lot of hardwood that added to the pleasant atmosphere, typical of a country ranch. Accompanied with great tunes, including grunch, rock, and even a little country music.
We liked their jalapeno cheese sausage; it was the right amount of spiciness and flavor. The brisket was tender and the bark was delicious.
We also liked how it was seasoned with just a touch of pepper, but it went a long way flavorwise. Moreover, the brisket was delicious, not too rich and had just the proper amount of fat.
The ribs were tender and juicy without being overcooked to the point of falling apart. All of the sides were delicious, especially the macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes.
The one thing we did not like about Roegels Barbecue and Co was their expensive prices.

Pros
- Flavorful sausage
- Tender brisket
Cons
- Stale Texas toast
- Lagging customer service
- Long wait
Gaitlin’s BBQ is known among the community for flavorful brisket and their St. Louis style pork ribs. At least, that’s what we’ve heard.
When we walked into Gaitlin’s BBQ, we noted the cleanliness, and the high-quality televisions for sports viewing. The overall atmosphere was like being in a large, clean smokehouse.
While we didn’t like the long wait and the slow customer service, the flavorful food made up for the lagging seating experience. As for prices, everything on the menu is expensive, but it’s to be expected when ordering high-quality meats.
We ordered their brisket, St. Louis-style pork ribs, and their sausages. With it, we were given Texas toast, smoked corn, and yams.
We liked how everything we received was a large enough portion to share. If we wanted to, that is.
As wonderful as the St. Louis-style pork ribs were, they weren’t the best. The brisket was bursting with flavor and so tender that it practically fell apart.
We also had some of their traditional sausage. Two miniature pots of their sweet barbecue sauce arrived with the platter, but frankly, the sausage didn’t need any sauce—it was that flavorful.
The corn had a distinctive and delicious flavor. The yams were also tasty, but the Texas toast was hard and stale.

Pros
- Juicy brisket enchiladas
- Flavorful ribs
- Velvety black beans
- Warm towels for hands
Cons
- Tasteless BBQ sauce
- Tiny portion of cobbler
- Dry smoked turkey
Pizzitola’s BBQ has a reputation in the community for being a pit BBQ place with delicious BBQ and top-notch customer service.
Many raved to us about their brisket, smoked turkey and sausages.
We ordered smoked turkey, half rack of ribs and a plate of brisket enchiladas wrapped in flour tortillas with a side of green beans and black beans. Both meals were delicious in their own way.
We liked the oaky taste of their ribs that were slightly charred but not burnt. Flavorful but not overpowering.
Additionally, we found the enchiladas to be tasteful and full of flavor.
The brisket in the enchiladas was juicy and meshed well with enchilada chili sauce.
Their black beans were velvety and smooth; we suspect this to be because of the cheese mixed into them. Unfortunately, we didn’t like how the smoked turkey was sliced into small slices and it tasted dry.
We felt that their BBQ sauce to be tasteless nor appetizing when sampled with the brisket and ribs. Additionally, the cobbler we ordered was a tiny portion and the ice cream on top was melted by the time they served it.
But we did like how Pizzitola’s BBQ imitates a luxury spa, and makes the practice of handing out warm towels when you’re done eating to clean your hands with.
