Pros
- Online and on-site services
- Free community events
Cons
- No insurance
Modern Therapy offers both online and on-site therapy and coaching services from their offices in Houston. This means that you can choose which service benefits you most.
We like this a lot because it makes it easier for people with busy schedules to find time for an appointment. You can also schedule one even when you’re out of town, which is a plus for us.
According to their website, they specialize in working with high-functioning professionals. They help navigate your career, love life, or general stresses in a healthy manner.
They offer therapy, coaching, and couples therapy. They also have intensive workshops for couples and families, and community events as well.
It’s a pretty standard range, and we like that they cover the basics. We also really like that they involve themselves in the community and build those relationships.
The price range is pretty reasonable, with a standard session ranging anywhere from $158 to $228. They also unfortunately don’t accept insurance outright, which we don’t love.
That said, they have a delightful website that includes a 4-part process to make the best use of your insurance benefits. We like the friendly vibe that comes with their information!

Pros
- Immigration evaluation specialist
- Bilingual
- Student rates available
Cons
- Expensive starting rate
Dr. Jimenez is a licensed psychologist and immigration evaluations specialist in Houston, Texas. She has 20 years of experience in her line of work.
We like this because it targets a specific need that clients might be looking for. If you’re in need of immigration evaluation, Dr. Jimenez might be your girl.
She’s very highly trained in conducting evaluations for U Visa, political asylum, survivors against violence, and extreme hardship cases.
She is also the winner of the Houston Awards: Psychologists for 2022. We think this is awesome, because it means a team of experts decided her services are top-notch.
Dr. Jimenez is also bilingual, fluently speaking both English and Spanish. We love this because it makes her services more accessible to different kinds of people.
Her fees are pretty standard, with a 50-minute individual therapy session costing $200. An 80-minute couples counseling session costs $300.
It’s still a reasonable price for her services but we should note that some clinics have doctors with slightly more affordable starting rates. This might help those of you looking to save a little.
We like that students and recent graduates get $50 off of individual sessions. This makes it easier for young people to access therapy, which we always love.

Pros
- Affordable starting rates
- Insurance plans accepted
Cons
- Sometimes unresponsive
Moore Mental Health and Behavioral Services specializes in dealing with individuals, couples, and families. They do counseling, psychological evaluations, risk assessments, and family support.
They do evaluations for child and adult ADHD, personality disorders, mood disorders, developmental disorders, and psychoeducational issues.
We like this a lot because we know how much identifying a disorder can help. They also help with court-ordered evaluations and vocational rehab, which is pretty cool.
Each of their clinicians are dual licensed, which we think is great. This means that they definitely have the credentials to show they’re capable of helping you through your problems.
We think their prices are great, with a 50-minute session starting at $110 with licensed counselors and associates This is definitely on the more affordable side of starting rates.
For a 50-minute session with a licensed psychologist, it’s $160, which is still pretty great. For the same with their clinical director Dr. Moore, it’s $200.
We also love that they accept a variety of insurance plans. It’s possible for your counseling to be covered in part or even in full, so we think that’s awesome.
We should note though that there have been people who reached out for an evaluation and did not receive a response. While it’s not common, we still think you should know.

Pros
- Insurance plans accepted
- 30 years of experience
Cons
- Strict cancellation policy
Shana Clark is a psychotherapist and counselor with over 30 years of experience. We like that she has been trusted by her clients for that long.
She also provides Employee Assistance Programs for some companies and plans. You might want to look into that if you think your company could benefit.
She is a preferred provider for five insurance plans, which is an okay amount. These include Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, United Behavioral Health, and Optum.
She bills your insurance for you, so you don’t have to worry about that. If your insurance plan isn’t on the list, there are other psychologists with a wider range on this list.
Her customer service responses are prompt and professional, which is always a plus for us. The clients we reached out to felt really comfortable and taken care of the entire time.
She’s very particular about scheduling, so keep that in mind. She has a policy where she will not work with you if you cancel your first session.
We understand that sometimes there are emergencies, so we don’t like that. However, if it really is urgent, you might be able to work something out if you let her know.

Pros
- Teen and young adult specialists
- Informative about kinds of therapy
Cons
- Out-of-network
Malaty Therapy offers counseling for teens, young adults, and professionals. They have services targeted specifically for teens, which are harder to come by.
We understand that the teenage years are particularly difficult to navigate. We really appreciate that they have these services that are a little more sensitive to that.
They have a big team of therapists with different backgrounds and specialties. We like this a lot because it gives you options for who you’re most comfortable opening up to.
However, we do wish there was a little more racial diversity in their team of therapists. We think this would help those with that kind of experience.
We also really like that their website explains the different kinds of therapy they use. This means that you can understand better the techniques you might employ before your first session.
These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing,.
They do not accept insurance outright, which is a bummer. But your insurance plan might be able to cover out-of-network providers, so you might want to check that.

Cons
- Closed on Tuesdays and Sundays
Rune Moelbak, a certified clinical psychologist in Houston, Texas, founded Better Therapy. He possesses all of the requisite abilities and expertise to practice psychology in the state of Texas. A Ph.D. in clinical psychology combines advanced clinical training with extensive knowledge and research experience.
Unlike many therapists who take a medical approach to psychological difficulties and may diagnose you with a mental disease, he approaches suffering from an existential and growth-oriented standpoint. This means he concentrates on knowing you as a person within the context of everyday life challenges, and relating to you as one person to another.
In addition, Because no two people are identical, there can be no one-size-fits-all method to addressing anxiety. Instead, we must completely comprehend the various types of life situations that have caused your anxiety alarm system to go into overdrive.
Rather than just teaching you self-help tactics like deep breathing or mindfulness, we need to understand the protective functions of your anxiety and go through previous situations in your life that may have overloaded your capacity to manage.
By assisting you in better understanding yourself and feeling more at ease with who you are, you will gain confidence and power over your life, which will quickly replace your worry.
We highly recommend him for his outstanding outlook in helping his patients and how he works with individuals of many nationalities, races, and sexual orientations to create a friendly, affirming environment for everyone. He adds an international and open-minded perspective to his work and the individuals he interacts with as a native European psychologist who has lived and studied in many various places.
