The Mercer Botanic Gardens are botanical gardens and an arboretum in Humble. The beauty of the area makes it a great place to find inspiration to buckle down and finish an essay or to find peace and quiet to focus and get some reviewing done.

You can explore the winding paths to get your blood pumping and discover several benches strategically placed in shady areas, for you to sit on and delve into your studies.

Pro tip:
Our favorite place to sit and get work done is on the benches right in front of the pond. The splash of the built-in water features creates just enough ambient noise to drown out distractions and help you stay focused.

River Oaks Park or more affectionately called Pumpkin for its art installation, is a quaint public park that’s perfect for a day out studying if you’re in the area. This cozy greenspace is filled with trees that provide a canopy of shade to stay cool under.

The whole park area fenced in for more of a secluded vibe if you’re the type to enjoy more solitude when you’re studying. Tables are also scattered around the area if you’d rather use them then spread out your books on the open grassy areas.

Pro tip:
Since the park is a beloved neighborhood spot, visiting here during weekdays might be more conducive that weekends when kids come here to play. But, there are still benches and tables towards the edges of the park for some peace and quiet.

Rothko Chapel in Houston is known as the go-to spot for quiet meditation. But, for us, it doubles as one of the best places to study for an exam or just to catch up on some class material.

Open to the public, visits to the Rothko Chapel are free, provided you honor the guidelines of the space. Next to the chapel, you’ll find a reflection pool and a nearby public park, both offering even more peace to study your notes.

Pro tip:
The inside of the chapel doubles as an art gallery with 14 paintings done by Mark Rothko. The interior offers an ambiance so hushed that you can’t help but be at peace. Plus, the simple calming art are great for breaks for your eyes.
