The Waffle Guide: Houston’s Best 5 Waffle Joints

The Waffle Guide Houston's Best 5 Waffle Joints

How We Picked:

Quality of the Waffles: We looked for places that make fresh waffles to order, using high-quality ingredients. The waffles should be crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with a delicious flavor that’s not too sweet.
Variety of Toppings: While classic butter and syrup is always a great option, the best waffle places offer various toppings. We looked on the menus for sweet and savory options or places allowing customers to customize their waffles to their tastes.
Atmosphere and Ambiance: We chose waffle places with a cozy, inviting atmosphere,  comfortable seating, and friendly staff.
Value for Money: While we didn’t want to sacrifice quality for price, we think it’s important to consider the value for money when choosing a waffle place. We checked if some places may offer specials or deals that can save you money.

Pros

  • Rich and sweet house waffles
  • Blissful Elvis waffles
  • Savory “The Cristo”

Cons

  • Coffee machine not working
  • Small waffles

Press Waffles Co. is a must-visit spot for all the waffle lovers out there. At least, that’s what we’ve heard.

The menu boasts a variety of delectable options, but we had the chance to try three of their most popular dishes: The House Waffles, The Elvis Waffle, and The Cristo.

We also wanted to order the coffee with our waffles, but their coffee machine was apparently broken. Furthermore, while we found the waffles on the small side, they packed a big tasty punch.

First up was The House Waffles, and let us tell you, they were delicious. The golden liége waffle was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

We liked how the freshly cut strawberries and house-made whipped cream gave the waffles a delicate sweetness. The Nutella and cookie butter added a rich and creamy burst of flavors to our mouths.

The Elvis Waffle was another winner in our books. The combination of peanut butter and honey with the freshly sliced bananas and bacon crumble was pure bliss.

We thought the salty and sweet flavors worked together in perfect harmony, and the waffle acted as a delicious base to hold everything together.

Lastly, in our opinion, the Cristo waffle sandwich was a unique take on the classic Monte Cristo sandwich. The black forest ham and smoked turkey were perfectly layered with melted white American cheese and berry jam tucked between the golden liége waffle.

We thought the flavors were bold and savory, and this dish was definitely a filling and satisfying choice.

Pros

  • Savory waffles
  • Great presentation

Cons

  • Distracted waitstaff

We’ve heard plenty of great things about the waffles at Adair Kitchen from those who’ve had them. Many claimed they were fluffy, delicious and savory—so we couldn’t wait to try them.

As we stepped inside, we surveyed the room, noting the comfortable chairs, and the scattered tables filled with customers, some still waiting for their orders—impatiently, might we add.

Still we took a seat at one of the tables, and noticed the waitstaff across the room. They seemed distracted, and we had to wait several minutes before a waiter finally made his way over to take our orders.

Upon receiving our order, we were impressed with the presentation of the dish. The waffles were perfectly golden-brown and had a distinct aroma of bacon and strawberries.

As we cut into the waffles, we found generous chunks of applewood bacon and fresh strawberries inside. In our opinion, the combination of the salty and savory bacon with the sweet and tart strawberries was truly a match made in heaven.

True to the claims of many, the waffles themselves were fluffy and had a light and crispy exterior, making them the perfect texture to pair with the flavors of the bacon and strawberries.

Pros

  • Sweet and tangy blueberry waffles
  • Light and airy Belgian waffles

Cons

  • Poor presentation
  • Long waits

If you’re looking for a unique, tasty brunch experience, Omelette & Waffles should be at the top of your list. However, while their waffles are delicious, we thought this restaurant falls short in presentation and speed of service.

When we arrived, the atmosphere was inviting. The décor was modern and spacious, with plenty of seating and a cozy ambience.

We immediately fell in love with the restaurant’s bright and cheerful atmosphere, and we were eager to get our hands on their waffles.

We ordered a variety of waffles, including the classic Belgian waffle, and their blueberry waffles.

When the waffles were set down in front of us, the presentation was amateur and sloppy. It looked as though the staff had simply thrown the waffles on the plates and sent them out without any thought to presentation.

The taste, however, was superb. The waffles were light and fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness. The blueberry waffles were sweet and tangy, whereas the Belgian waffles were light and fruity, from the strawberries and the bananas.

We also thought the whipped cream was a nice finishing touch.

Unfortunately, the service was slow. We waited nearly an hour for our waffles, and it seemed as though the staff was in no rush to get the food to us.

Pros

  • Savory cornbread waffles
  • Fluffy fruity pebbles waffles

Cons

  • Limited parking
  • Long waits
  • Cold chicken

We recently had the chance to visit TasteBar + Kitchen and try out the waffles people recommended.

First off, we recommend being prepared for limited parking as the restaurant is in a bustling part of town. We had to park a few blocks away and walk, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

Next, we have to mention the long waits. We understand that good food takes time, but waiting an hour for our table was a bit much. However, we were determined to try their famous waffles, so we toughed it out.

Unfortunately, when our food finally arrived, we found the chicken to be cold. It was disappointing, but we didn’t let it ruin our experience.

Now, on to the good stuff—the waffles! We ordered two types: the cornbread waffles with cheddar and bacon and the fruity pebble waffles.

The cornbread waffles were savory and delicious. Combining the cheddar and bacon with the crispy waffles was a match made in heaven—it was definitely the highlight of our meal.

The fruity pebble waffles were a fun twist on a classic breakfast item. The waffles were fluffy and had a nice crunch from the cereal.

However, we found them to be a bit too sweet for our liking.

Overall, TasteBar + Kitchen’s waffles were hit-and-miss. The limited parking and long waits were a hassle, but the cornbread waffles made it all worth it.

We just hope that they improve the chicken for future customers.

Pros

  • Crispy “morning belle” waffles
  • Spicy and sweet “Cal Naughton Jr” waffles
  • Sweet Kream Kong waffle

Cons

  • Slow service
  • Expensive

When we went to Jupiter Pizza & Waffle, we noted that the service was slow and the prices were quite high. However, the food was definitely the highlight of our visit.

We tried several waffles, but our two favorites were the Morning Belle and the Cal Naughton Jr.

The Morning Belle consisted of fried chicken, eggs, applewood smoked bacon, and country gravy over a Belgian waffle. The chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the waffle soaked up the gravy perfectly.

The Cal Naughton Jr. was equally delicious with fried chicken, spicy maple sauce, eggs, and hollandaise over a Belgian waffle. The combination of sweet and spicy flavors was perfect.

We also tried the Kream Kong waffle, which was loaded with bananas, vanilla custard, pecans, whipped cream, melted chocolate, and powdered sugar. While it was definitely indulgent and sweet, we found it to be a bit too over the top for our taste.

Finally, we tried the Pulitzer waffle sandwich, which was filled with house-made pulled pork, caramelized onions, applewood smoked bacon, muenster cheese, and BBQ sauce.

The waffle was perfectly crisp and held up well to the toppings. It was definitely messy to eat, but worth it for the delicious combination of flavors.
