Craving For a Swim Head Over To The Best Lakes, Rivers, and Beaches in Houston

Whenever the season gets a little warm, nothing soothes us like a relaxing dip in water.

While pools do the trick, there are some of us who prefer being surrounded by nature and bathed in sunlight. That said, if you’re looking for springs, beaches and lakes to swim in Houston, then we know the spot for you.

These nature parks have been crowd-favorite vacation spots and wedding venues. So we guarantee that you’ll find spending your weekends here worthwhile.

So without further ado, let’s go over the best places to swim in Houston.

Lake Houston

You can definitely swim in Houston lakes, especially this one.

You can also indulge in some nature photography, kayaking, fishing, and canoeing.

Aptly named Lake Houston, this is a reservoir park bordered by the city of Humble, Harris Country, Montgomery County, New Caney, and Huffman. It is even accessible, not only to the city, but also to the Bush Intercontinental Airport and the Houston Port.

Given that it is one of the best recreational spots, there are so many things you can do around Lake Houston.

Twin Lake Scuba Park

One of the best spots for open water swimming in Houston, the Twin Lakes is located on private property just 30 minutes from the heart of the city. This is definitely a recommendation if you don’t want to travel far for a dip.

It is built with natural forms like waterfalls around it, has security monitoring all day, and includes amenities like tennis courts, pools, and playgrounds.

It also bears noting that a community resides in this area, so it is best to be considerate of your actions during your visit.

East Beach

Located at the easternmost part of Galveston Island and just near the Fort San Jacinto Historic Point, is the East Beach.

A great spot for seasonal festivals and parties, this laid-back beach has an expansive shoreline and clean waters that’s perfect for recreational swimming.

It is also a great place for fishing, bird-watching, or picnicking. We also recommend this as a free hangout place for couples and friends in Houston.

Stewart Beach

If your ideal summer weekend is sunbathing, family-friendly crowds, and some good ol’ beach volleyball, then Stewart Beach is the place to be.

Swimming is so much fun when done in a place full of energy and sunlight. It’s also a plus that they have complete amenities for guests’ convenience.

Then again, the staff imposes rules for guests to follow. This includes cleaning up after, keeping pets on leashes, and not disturbing the wildlife.

Highly trained lifeguards are also on duty all day.

Huntsville State Park

Not only does the Huntsville State Park offer a great place for swimming, but also for camping, fishing, paddling, kayaking, hiking and bird watching. This makes it our top recommendation for nature lovers in Houston.

The pristine waters of the blue lagoon is a swimmers’ favorite spot. While there are no lifeguards available, the staff does check on the guest every now and then to ensure safety.

If you plan on staying for the night, they have an available pavilion and a campsite to occupy. Aside from the adventure it offers, we love how this state park supports the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.
