Traditional Brick and Mortar Stores

To rent bikes the old-fashioned way, you should choose the store, gather the requirements, choose a bike you need, reserve the bike, complete the rental agreement, pay for the bike, and return it after use.

Step 1: Choose where you’ll rent the bike from.

Whether you’re a casual cruiser or an avid thrill-seeker, selecting the right rental store can make all the difference. Here are some things you should consider:

  • Closeness to your starting or end point
  • Rental price and minimum time required
  • Kinds of bikes they have available
  • Rental policies
  • Reputation and customer reviews
  • Service and support
  • Insurance
  • Protective gear provided

Step 2: Check Rental Requirements

Make sure you review the rental requirements specified by the chosen rental company. Here are some of the common things rental stores will ask before you can rent a bike.

  • Valid ID: A driver’s license or passport to verify your identity and to make sure that you are at least 18 years old.
  • Security Deposit: Some rental companies require a security deposit or a refundable amount while you have the bike to cover any potential damages or late returns.
  • Liability Waiver: Some rental companies may require you to sign a liability waiver before renting a bike. Read it carefully and understand the terms and conditions before signing.

Step 3: Choose Your Bike

Choose the type of bike you want to rent based on your preferences and intended use. You should consider factors like where you’ll be using it, the distance you’ll cover, and your cycling experience.

Step 4: Reserve the Bike

Once you’re set with the rental company and the kinds of bike, make a reservation. This can often be done online through the rental company’s website or by contacting them directly. Don’t forget to mention additional requirements like accessories or equipment.

Step 5: Complete Rental Agreement

When you pick up the bike, you will usually be asked to complete a rental agreement. They’ll ask for personal information and then ask you to sign a contract with rental terms and conditions.

Step 6: Pay Rental Fees

Some companies may require payment upfront when reserving the bike, while others may accept payment upon pickup. Payment options usually include credit/debit cards or cash.

Step 7: Inspect the Bike

Before riding the bike, carefully inspect it for any existing damage or issues. Note and inform the rental company about any pre-existing damage to avoid being held responsible for it upon returning the bike. Make sure you feel comfortable riding it before taking off on your adventure.

Step 8: Returning the Bike

Make sure you return the bike within the time frame to avoid late returns. If you gave a security deposit, don’t forget to get it back. You can also ask for a receipt to prove that you returned the bike in good condition and completed your rental agreement.
