With a name like Sugar Land, you’d expect the place to look like something straight out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And we’re happy to report that – no, it’s nothing of the sort. It’s just a plain Texas suburb in the middle of Houston.
But where their name falls short, they make up for their reputation. After all, Sugar Land is one of Houston’s best neighborhoods to live in.
So, what can you do in one of Houston’s best suburbs? Don’t worry, we got you! Read on if you want to check out some of the best things that you can do in one of Houston’s best neighborhoods!
1. Attend Concerts at the Smart Financial Centre
Address: 18111 Lexington Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479
Phone Number: 281-207-6278
Hours: Open 24 hours
Although it’s not the biggest event venue out there, Sugar Land’s Smart Financial Centre is still a good place to visit. Whether there’s an event or not, the magnificence of the building alone is worth seeing!
Sugar Land’s Smart Financial Centre can seat up to 6,000 people at max capacity, which makes it the perfect venue for any iconic event.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Concert was performed at the Smart Financial Centre in July 2023, so that brings some credit to Smart Financial Centre’s name. But as of the time of writing, many iconic singers will be performing there in 2024 as well.
Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan will be performing there, along with Barry Manilow on his last concert tour. International artists will also perform, with KPop sensation ITZY holding the Houston leg of their world tour at the Smart Financial Center.
Pro Tips: Parking at the Smart Financial Centre can be a hassle since the space can be hard. You’ll pay $15, and you need to purchase them on the day of the event. So if you’re going there, we strongly suggest taking an Uber or Lyft instead. |
2. Go For A Home Run at the Constellation Field
Address: 1 Stadium Dr, Sugar Land, TX 77498
Phone Number: 281-240-4487
Hours: Varies per game
If you’re a fan of Minor League Baseball, we suggest giving the Constellation Field a visit! After all, Constellation Field is considered to be the home of Sugar Land’s Space Cowboys!
The Constellation Field is a lot smaller compared to other Minor League Baseball Stadium since it can only hold 7,500 seats. To put that into perspective, the only other stadium that can seat less would be CHS Field in Minnesota which holds only 7,210.
That being said though, Constellation Field by far, is still a pretty stadium to visit. Its exterior has a slight medieval twist to modern architecture, while the seats let you see the game clearly from any angle.
Pro Tips: If you’re planning to see a game at the Constellation Field, we strongly suggest bringing a portable fan with you! The field can get incredibly hot and humid, especially during the summer, after all. |
3. Take Your Time at the Sugar Land Town Square
Address: 15958 City Walk, Sugar Land, TX 77479
Phone Number: 346-340-1340
Hours: Monday – Sunday: 6:00 AM – 12:00 AM
One of Sugar Land’s most touristy spots, Sugar Land Town Square is a 1,400,000 square feet (or 32 acres) behemoth of a shopping district that comes with plenty of family-friendly fun for everyone to enjoy, along with being a heaven for foodies, too!
Sugar Land Town Square has plenty of stores to shop around. Wearhouse and Ann Taylor Loft are one of their more famous stores. However, they also have Farah Talib Aziz if you’re looking for something on the more contemporary side.
However, Sugar Land Town Square’s main claim to fame would be the swath of restaurants near the main walk. They have everything, from fast food staples like P.F. Chang’s to locally-owned restaurants like the Flying Saucer, which we recommend!
Pro Tips: We recommend wearing more comfortable shoes if you’re ever planning to visit Sugar Land Town Square. Also, hold on to your kids well to ensure they won’t get lost. |
4. Enjoy the Night at EinStein’s Pub & Arcade
Address: 16733 W Airport Blvd #290, Richmond, TX 77407
Phone Number: 832-532-0331
Hours: Monday – Thursday: 2:00 PM – 2:00 AM
Friday – Sunday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 AM
If you’re ever on the lookout for a bar where you can just chill and have fun, then we suggest trying out EinStein’s Pub & Arcade off Airport Boulevard! You’ll get all the bells and whistles of a good, old-fashioned pub while enjoying some retro games, too!
What makes EinStein’s Pub & Arcade unique is the way they make bars fun, even for those who don’t drink at all! Their arcade has plenty of retro games like two variations of Pac-Man, and Mario Kart machines for those competitive souls out there, too!
EinStein’s Pub & Arcade also has a decent drinks selection! Most of their beers are locally sourced from Houston and come at a relatively cheap price, too. We suggest trying out the Buffalo Bayou Crush City if you’re looking for something strong!
Pro Tips: Though EinStein’s Pub & Arcade might seem like an adults-only bar, kids are also welcome to visit them since they have an arcade! If you’re bringing kids, we suggest in the afternoon to avoid the rowdy party crowd in the evening. |
5. Experience a Thrill at the Escape Again Rooms
Credit: @cookies_and_coke on Instagram
Address: 3564 Hwy 6, Sugar Land, TX 77478
Phone Number: 832-999-4572
Hours: Monday – Tuesday: By appointment
Wednesday: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Thursday: 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Friday: 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Saturday: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Sunday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Although there are plenty of other escape rooms in Sugar Land, Escape Again Rooms stands out from the rest of the others by providing cheap prices while still providing an award-winning experience.
This is because, unlike other escape rooms in Sugar Land, one of Escape Again Room’s games, the Wizard, is recognized as one of Morty’s top escape rooms of 2022! Morty is, if you’re unaware, like TripAdvisor but for escape rooms.
It’s really easy to see why it got such an accolade. After all, the WIzard lets you experience what it’s like to adventure in a magical world with your friends for as little as $34 per person!
But if you want to go for a different vibe, then we suggest trying out their other two rooms, the Outlaw and the Hike. Both still offer an immersive experience that’s just as fun, too!
Pro Tips: We strongly suggest booking ahead of time if you want to experience Escape Again Room’s Wizard room. We suggest booking it at least a week or two earlier to make sure you get the timeslot that you’ve always wanted. |
6. Drink and Learn at Pennison’s
Credit: Pub Party Entertainment LLC on Facebook
Address: 2446 Settlers Way Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479
Phone Number: 281-265-4840
Hours: Monday – Sunday: 10:30 AM – 2:00 AM
Pennison’s is, as one Reddit comment has pointed out, one of “First Colony’s unofficial dive bars”. Though it’s hard to see when you first visit the place, Pennison’s charming points just keep on adding up, making it a must-visit if you’re visiting Sugar Land.
For us, we suggest you visit them on Wednesdays and Thursdays. You can play Texas Hold ‘Em (no, not the Beyonce song) on Wednesdays, and they hold random events on Thursdays, like Trivia nights and Music Bingo, too!
Pennison’s also has a good selection of drinks and snacks for you to choose from as well, with The Godfather Mixed Drink pairing well with the Hot Dog + Chips. Their cigarettes are pretty expensive since they cost somewhere between $8.25 – $7.75
Pro Tips: Although Pennison’s is good, we don’t recommend visiting them if you have any respiratory problems. The Pennison’s reeks of cigarette smoke. If you want to visit them, we recommend to wear a mask. |
7. Walk With The Doggies at the Pawm Springs Dog Park
Credit: @edens_apples on Instagram
Address: 15300 University Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479
Phone Number: 281-275-2825
Hours: Monday: Closed
Tuesday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Where Sugar Land doesn’t fall short is with its parks, and the Pawm (yes, that’s not a typo) Springs Dog Park is one of them! Pawm Springs Dog Park is a 6-acre, resort-style dog park where you can let your fur baby loose and let them have fun!
What makes Pawm Springs Dog Park unique is the fact that it’s an educational space for your furbabies, too! The park has agility training equipment all over to make sure your dogs get the exercise they need, along with a pavilion area for you to rest in, too.
If you’re worried about letting your Shih Tzus run around with Great Danes, Pawm Springs Dog Park has a designated area for small and bigger dogs. The park also has a pond for your furbabies to swim around during the summertime as well!
Pro Tips: We don’t recommend visiting Pawm Springs Dog during the rainy season, especially if you have a smaller dog. The area for smaller dogs doesn’t have proper drainage, after all. We suggest visiting it during the summer instead! |
8. Explore Nature at Oyster Creek Park
Credit: @fefeanng on Instagram
Address: 4033 Hwy 6, Sugar Land, TX 77478
Phone Number: 281-275-2885
Hours: Monday – Sunday: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Yet another park that you can visit in Sugar Land, Oyster Creek Park is a community park where you can walk around and have fun! It’s not the biggest park out there (it’s only 111 acres) but the stunning naturescape is something to behold for anyone!
Think of it as a touch of nature in the middle of the city with a running river with clear water along with a huge picnic area that you can access for free! There are also shades in place as well to shield you from the stifling Texas heat we all know and some love.
They also have an amphitheater that you can book for private events, too! It can seat up to 500, and all you need to do to reserve it with a resident’s discount is to provide a Texas driver’s license and a Sugar Land water bill!
Pro Tips: Although it’s ideal to visit Oyster Creek Park after the rainy season, it can get easily crowded during those times. Thus, we suggest visiting them during the summer or winter for a nice stroll! |
9. Take Your Kids to the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center
Address: 198 Kempner St, Sugar Land, TX 77498
Phone Number: 832-742-2800
Hours: Monday – Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday – Sunday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Sugar Land is famous for being child-friendly – and if your child is on the more curious side, then we suggest giving Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center a visit! From their immersive experiences to fun events, your kid will have a blast with every visit!
Entrance costs $15 for both kids and adults alike, but kids under 1 and members of the museum can enter for free. For those $15, you can get access to their wonderful exhibits that are specifically tailored for both kids and toddlers alike!
They have exhibits like Kidtropolis is a city for kids, made by kids – and it’s in a 3D Virtual field trip too, so your kids will have a unique experience! But if your kids are on the more creative side, they’ll love Dragons and Fairies’ exploratory nature!
Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center also has rotating events that can make every experience unique as well! However, their Friday staple, Mommy Mingle Fridays is perfect for mommies looking for company and get their kids to make new friends, too!
Pro Tips: Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center can be a bit too small for lots of kids to mingle around all at the same time! Thus, we suggest bringing your kids in when it’s not the peak season to make sure your kids can enjoy everything! |
10. Enjoy the Arts at ART MUSEUM TX Sugar Land
Address: 16165 City Walk, Sugar Land, TX 77479
Phone Number:346-387-1192
Hours: Monday – Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Thursday: 11:00 – 9:00 PM
Friday – Saturday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
With one location in Katy (katy) and another one in Sugar Land, ART MUSEUM TX is ideal for the aesthetically inclined who want to visit Sugar Land! The museum proudly showcases artwork by local artists, which can help them get the exposure they need!
The entrance fee for ART MUSEUM TX costs $10 for adults which can go down to $8 if you’re a member. Being a member also allows you to attend their quarterly gatherings where you can network and have fun with other art-minded people!
ART MUSEUM TX regularly makes public art easily accessible for everyone, too! These artworks are free for everyone to see and take pictures of as well. But if you want to see the artwork yourself, they also ensure to showcase locally-made, beautiful art in front.
Pro Tips: If you’re interested in visiting ART MUSEUM TX, we do not suggest visiting them on Fridays at 7 – 9 PM since they charge an extra $5 to make sure that it won’t get too crowded. We understand why, but it still feels like a ripoff. |
11. Get Fresh Food at the Farmers Market at Imperial
Address: 234 Matlage Way, Sugar Land, TX 77478
Phone Number: 281-677-7996
Hours: Sunday – Friday: Closed
Saturday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
If you’re ever looking for a place in Sugar Land to buy a fresh batch of fruits and veggies, we recommend dropping by Farmers Market at Imperial! Their prices are great, and it’s easy to find since it’s located at Imperial Park Recreation Center’s parking lot!
Much like other farmers markets, Farmers Market at Imperial is only open once a week – in this case, they’re open on Saturdays. However, this only means that you can rest assured that the product you’ll be getting is as fresh as possible!
Speaking of their produce, they have plenty of vendors which means a good variety of their products as well! As of the time of writing, they have new vendors that sell succulents and flowers, so we suggest visiting them if you’re a plant parent!
Pro Tips: From time to time, some vendors offer free tasting for their veggies! Thus, we suggest giving them a visit every now and then so that you can try out some of their veggies before buying them! |
12. Visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land
Address: 13016 University Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479
Phone Number: 281-313-2277
Hours: Monday – Wednesday: Closed
Thursday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Conveniently located near Sugar Land’s University Boulevard, the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land is an ideal place to visit if you’re looking for an in-depth look at world history, while still having an overall fun time!
When it comes to their attractions, the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land’s Hall of Paleontology is a must-visit for dinosaur enthusiasts! But if you’re not into that, then the Hall of Technology lets you take a glimpse into the future.
Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land also makes sure that every visit you have will be unique, too! They have an exciting calendar of events for you to check out, with the Sugar Land Dig Pit being currently ongoing as of the time of writing.
Pro Tips: Sadly, although the Hall of Paleontology is a nice visit for kids who are interested in dinosaurs, the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land isn’t very kid-friendly at all. |
