Pros

  • Holistic practices
  • Starts with natural remedies

Cons

  • Really high rates
  • Does not accept a lot of insurances

Dr. Madhureeta Achari is a neurology specialist that has extensive experience in headache and epilepsy.

Her private practice, Integrated Neurology, treats multiple neurological diseases such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, cerebrovascular diseases, and more.

What we really like about her is her holistic practice. She incorporates information about a person’s lifestyle, ancestral heritage, and social structure to determine the cause of disease and treatment plans moving forward.

Nutrition is also deeply incorporated into her practice. She uses nutritional neurology to diagnose and manage neurological issues caused by nutrient deficiencies.

She starts her treatment plans with natural remedies. She then determines if you’ll be needing other treatment options.

Do take note, though, that her services are quite expensive. In comparison to many neurologists in the area, she has one of the highest rates and you can expect a lot of additional charges.

It’s best to inquire about these rates and added fees prior to booking with her to ensure that her services fit your budget.

Also, she has stopped accepting a lot of insurance. Try to give them a call to learn about alternative payment options.

Pros

  • Long, thorough appointments
  • Affordable rates

Cons

  • Does not reschedule patients who cancel
  • Long wait list

Dr. Sheila Jacobson is a board-certified neurology specialist that’s had over 35 years of experience in the field. She communicates with her patients in English and Spanish.

What we really liked about Dr. Sheila Jacobson was how thorough her appointments were. She really listens to each patient’s concerns and does a great job of addressing them.

She doesn’t rush her appointments and sometimes it would even last as long as 2 hours. Her first priority is finding out what’s wrong and giving treatment plans.

Her bedside manners are commendable. She makes sure that you feel comfortable and really makes you feel heard.

Her rates are also far more affordable compared to multiple neurologists in the area. This is great for those who are looking to get an appointment with someone who fits their budget.

A downside is that she refuses to see patients who have canceled in the past. This is a part of their policies

Although this is understandable, there may be times when you might need to cancel last minute.

Also, they have a long waitlist. If you’re looking to get an appointment anytime soon, you might be better off with another doctor.

Pros

  • They offer above-standard sleep studies
  • Special expertise in electrodiagnostic and neuromuscular medicine

Cons

  • Difficult communication
  • Additional appointment for any added concerns

Dr. Allen Chu is a neurologist who focuses on neuromuscular problems and sleep problems. He is board certified in neurology, neuromuscular medicine, sleep medicine, and electrodiagnostic medicine.

He used to suffer from sleep apnea, pushing him to learn more about how to treat patients to give them a better quality of sleep.

What we like about Dr. Allen Chu is how he focuses specifically on sleep problems. This allows him to conduct above-standard sleep studies that are far more thorough.

In most cases, the sleep studies happen at their facilities that somewhat mimic a hotel. On other occasions, he also provides equipment for at-home sleep studies.

We also like how Dr. Chu is one of the few physicians in the Houston area who specializes in EMG medicine. A lot of reputable doctors also go to him when they require a second opinion.

A downside to availing of their services is how difficult it is to communicate with their clinic. Most of the time, it’s difficult to get a call in and schedule an appointment.

Also, if you end up having any additional concerns on the day of your appointment, you have to schedule another appointment for that. This can be a hassle especially if you travel far just to visit Dr. Chu.

Make sure you let their office know about all your concerns while scheduling an interview so you don’t have to book another one.

Pros

  • Prompt responses with problems over the phone
  • Appointments are on the dot

Cons

  • Not an advocate of pain meds
  • Visits are rushed
  • Does not have the best bedside manners

Dr. Aziz Shaibani is a neurology specialist that’s had over 40 years of experience in the medical field. His specialties include neuromuscular medicine, neurophysiology, electromyography, and more.

What we like about Dr. Aziz Shaibani is how he’s always prompt in responding to any calls over the phone. Even if you call him past his work hours, he always tries to answer or get back to you immediately.

We also appreciate how his appointments are always on the dot. You wouldn’t have to worry about waiting too long before being seen.

This is great for those who have a busy schedule as they don’t have to move anything around to accommodate their appointment.

The first downside would be that Dr. Shaibani is not an advocate of pain meds. He doesn’t give his patients any numbing meds or anything that’ll help with the pain unless you specifically ask for it.

Also, his appointments can sometimes feel rushed. He doesn’t have the best bedside manners as he doesn’t try to build rapport with his patients.

He’s the type of doctor who’s very straight to the point so he might not be the best option if you prefer someone a bit more personable.

If you want to make sure that all your concerns are addressed, try to write down any questions you may have beforehand so that he can address them during your visit.

Pros

  • Specialized in treating recurrent headache
  • Great bedside manner
  • Quick response time to inquiries

Cons

  • Higher fees
  • Has a cancellation fee

Dr. Brian Loftus is board certified in headache medicine and neurology. He started his private practice, Bellaire Neurology, in 1994.

Dr. Loftus suffered from migraine headaches during his neurology residency which led him to narrow his practice area. Bellaire Neurology now focuses on headaches, multiple sclerosis, and hyperhidrosis.

Dr. Loftus has been named Texas Monthly’s “Super Doctor” and H Texas Magazine’s “Top Doctor” for multiple years.

We really appreciate how this clinic is focused on treating recurrent headaches as there aren’t a lot of physicians who can accurately treat such a general condition.

We also love Dr. Loftus’ bedside manners. He makes sure that you’re comfortable during your visit and he listens really well to any concerns you may have.

He doesn’t rush during his appointments and whenever you have concerns after, he’s very quick to respond through calls or through the patient portal on his website.

Do take note, however, that he has higher rates. He also has a cancellation fee in case you choose not to show up to your appointment.

To avoid this, try to make sure that you schedule during a day when you don’t have other commitments.
