Pros
- Painting and woodwork
- On-site owner
- Materials and tools provided
- Easy-to-follow instructions
Cons
- $15 customization fee
- 24-hour advance booking
Many people we spoke to in the Houston Galleria community raved about how The Rustic Brush takes the paint-and-sip concept to a new level by allowing guests to create a picture of their choice on wood.
Combining painting and woodwork, The Rustic Brush has come up with something fresh that not many other companies in the area have done.
The Rustic Brush also touts flexibility with customizing any design you can think of, but they charge an additional fee of fifteen dollars.
Still, through their DIY workshop, anyone can learn how to use a hammer to create a beautiful work of art before grabbing their paintbrush to add the final touches. All who take the workshop begin by choosing artwork from the multiple project layouts available.
Once you’ve picked out the art masterpiece of your dreams, you can begin hammering different wooden boards together and sanding the edges. Next, you stain the wood to the shade you want before applying a stencil over the wood and painting a final piece.
Of course, if you think you’re a master artist, you don’t need to use a stencil. You can paint the design freehand.
What we liked is that throughout the entire DIY workshop, the owner of The Rustic Brush is there on-site to guide the class every step of the way.
Besides providing all the tools and materials needed, the owner demonstrates good teaching skills with anyone enrolled in the workshop by giving easy-to-follow instructions.
Although their DIY workshops are open to anyone who wants to learn a new skill, they require online booking 24 hours in advance. By the way, all the workshops at The Rustic Brush are BYOB.

Pros
- Family-friendly classes
- Themed classes and private parties
- Step-by-step directions
Cons
- 24-hour refund request rule
- No custom designs
- Rushed classes
Pinot’s Palette offers paint-and-sip classes for all ages, even children, as long as their parents accompany them. Of course, only those 21 and older are allowed to sip on alcoholic beverages during their class—yes, they check your ID.
What we liked about Pinot’s Palettes is that they offer multiple weekly classes and private parties. Most of their events start at $40 and center around different themes depending on the time of year.
We don’t like, though, the lack of customization in their classes regarding creating your own designs. Even at all their paint-and-sip private party classes, the same database of projects is offered.
Whether taking one of their paint-and-sip event classes or having your own private party, we like the process that all their classes follow. Furthermore, Pinot Palette sets up a relaxed atmosphere for their classes.
The instructors show the class how to mix paint and use different brush techniques properly. Since everyone in the class is painting the same object, it’s easy for the instructor to guide the class step by step.
However, the downside to this is that we’ve heard that the instructors tend to rush through the class.
Despite this, all the paints, easels, aprons, and canvases are already prepared, so all you need to do is show up to the class. Don’t forget to bring your own food and beverages because Pinot Palette does not supply that for you.
Of course, no two paintings will look the same as you can choose different colors, but keep in mind that it will be similar to the base project.
We also liked how those who opt for Pinot Palette’s private parties can choose paintings that consume additional time, depending on how long they want the class to last.
But we don’t like how if you’re unable to attend a class, there are no refunds available unless you put in a request 24-hours in advance.

Pros
- Thorough instructions
- Engaging and humorous instructor
- Themed classes and events
Cons
- 150 deposit fee
- Rearranging of belongings
- Rushed class
Almost everyone we spoke to about Painting with a Twist raved about the spontaneity behind their variety of classes. Others warned us about their $150 initial deposit fee if having a paint-and-sip party.
From our observations of Painting with a Twist, both statements are valid.
One of the things that we liked the most about Painting with a Twist was that their classes focused on a central theme. For example, trivia night, girls’ night, paint your pet, and date night.
What makes their public classes different from their private classes is the initial deposit fee required for all private classes. Don’t worry; the deposit is returned once the party is completed.
What we liked about Painting with a Twist’s private party option is that you can choose from two-hour and three-hour paintings. Moreover, we also liked how private parties and their public classes have no limits placed on the food and beverages you bring.
We, ourselves, sat in on one of Painting with a Twist’s latest public classes. We observed the instructor’s kind, engaging, humorous, and helpful conduct throughout the evening.
Furthermore, we liked how he showed us each stage, from choosing the right brush to mixing the colors. As our painting took shape after following his specific directions, we felt like true artists.
We also noted how the instructor strolled about, provided encouraging comments, and offered assistance with painting fixes upon the request of others in the class.
What we did not like, though, was how the instructor rearranged our belongings without our consent, which was a subtle but effective way of rushing us through the class.

Pros
- Paint acrylic masterpieces
- Free water bottles
- Laid-back classroom
- Engaging atmosphere
Cons
- 21+ only
- Online registration in advance
- No custom paintings
Art Cellar Houston hosts fun painting classes where anyone can learn to paint acrylic masterpieces while enjoying a glass of their favorite wine. At least, that’s what we’ve heard.
From what we’ve noted, anyone attending Art Cellar Houston’s classes has to register in advance online. If not, you won’t be let through the door without confirmation.
Moreover, for their paint-and-sip classes, no one under 21 is allowed in the class. They do indeed check IDS.
While they didn’t provide wine, we liked how Art Cellar Houston provided cups, ice, plates, napkins, cutlery, and a wine opener for those who brought their own wine and food to the class we attended.
We also liked how they had free water bottles for all students who participated in the class. Furthermore, we felt at ease in the laid-back classroom the instructors at Art Cellar Houston implemented.
The music playing throughout the classroom helped create an engaging atmosphere easy for socializing with others. The entire classroom was decorated with various paintings, giving us examples of what to expect to create in the class.
Although we were limited in what we could paint regarding our own creations, we liked the creative way the teacher instructed us to paint a simple acrylic sunset canvas. Who knew sunsets could be painted in various ways—we didn’t.

Pros
- Two-hour public workshops
- Unique themed events
- Hookah available
- Free shot glasses
- Groovy atmosphere
Cons
- Open by reservation
- $100 deposit for parties
Many people raved to us about the groovy atmosphere at Art & Vibez and their unique art workshops. From our own experience, we can attest to the trueness of this statement.
The average ticket price for Art & Vibez different workshops starts at $40. Each ticket grants access to a two-hour painting workshop.
However, note that Art & Vibez are open by reservation only. Yet, all available public sessions are posted on their website.
We liked, though, how they put together different themed events, such as karaoke, painting, and 90’s paint classes. Although Art & Vibez requires a $100 deposit for their private classes, 3-hour sessions come with free karaoke.
By the way, as Art & Vibez caters to 21+, they check the IDs of all those in attendance to prevent underage drinking. As they are BYOB, you can bring anything you’d like; don’t worry about buying materials because, as we observed, all materials are provided by Art & Vibez.
The room their classes are in had a lively aesthetic. We can understand why many raved about the groovy atmosphere at Art & Vibez—even the art teachers were encouraging all to loosen up and feel free to dance to the various Hip-Hop and R&B hits blasting.
Furthermore, we liked how they gave out free cups and shot glasses. We also noted that they had hookah available for use.
Even though we had no idea what we were painting in advance, we liked how the teachers provided guidance and went out of their way to ensure the final painting was something we’d be proud to display in our own homes.

Pros

- No experience required
- Open for various types of events
Cons
- May be fully booked and busy
From their name itself, In Home Paint Party is a mobile operation type of business that is more than willing to go to different venues for their clients.
We prefer them compared the the other ones mentioned on this list mostly because of convenience. Whether it is a social event, a team building, or just an over night, nothing can beat the feeling of painting within the four walls of your comfort place.
Unlike others, they mostly provide every art materials. What you only need to have are tables, chairs, and refreshments of your choice.
Since they will bring with them the needed items for the party, their staff will be needing 20 to 30 minutes to set up everything. Which is also a perfect time for you to wait for your guests to arrive.
Their minimum number of participants are 10 paid adults. But if it is a children’s party, 7 kids are enough!
Another thing that we like about them is that they offer two canvas sizes, 11×40 and 16×20. To make it even better, the bigger your group, the more chances of getting
