The Top 5 Green Thumb-Approved Nurseries in Houston

The Top 5 Green Thumb-Approved Nurseries in Houston

How We Picked

Quality of Plants: This is an obvious one, but the quality of the plants is essential. We believe the best nurseries have healthy, vibrant plants that have been properly cared for, so that’s what we looked for!
Range of Species: An excellent plant nursery should have many plant species available. From everyday garden staples like roses and hostas to exotic and unique species, a good nursery should have something for everyone.

We also took into consideration nurseries with a range of rare and unusual species, as well as native and drought-tolerant plants, to suit a variety of gardening styles.
Customer Service: We looked at whether the staff at the selected nurseries were friendly and knowledgeable, able to answer questions and offer advice on plant selection and care.
Additional Services: In our opinion, a good plant nursery should offer additional services beyond just selling plants. This could include landscaping services, gardening advice, and workshops on gardening techniques, such as pruning and dividing.

Pros

  • Delivery available
  • Plenty of succulents & shrubs
  • Beautiful and sustainable plants

Cons

  • Layout of nursery
  • Long checkout process

We must say that Joshua’s Native Plants in Houston is a gem of a nursery for anyone looking to add some beautiful and sustainable plants to their home or garden.

Upon entering the nursery, we found a vast selection of native plants and the well-organized layout of the shop. Joshua’s Native Plants had a wide range of plants, from flowering perennials to succulents, grasses, and shrubs, all grown locally and with care.

Moreover, we thought the staff knowledgeable and friendly, making sure to assist us with our plant selections and providing helpful advice on how to care for each plant. We noted, in particular, their commitment to supporting local gardeners and their focus on promoting eco-friendly, sustainable gardening practices.

The plants themselves were healthy and beautiful, showcasing the care and attention they receive. There was a variety of plant sizes, accommodating those with limited space or those aiming to create a lush garden landscape.

One unique aspect of Joshua’s Native Plants for us was their plant delivery, as it’s quite convenient when you plant on taking a truckload of plants home.

However, we thought the layout of the nursery was quite confusing, and some plants were spread out all over the place. It took us some time to navigate and find what we were looking for.

Lastly, the checkout process took longer than expected, as there was only one cashier available to handle the large number of customers.

Pros

  • Re-potting
  • Delivery
  • Vast collection of succulents

Cons

  • Disinterested staff

We’ve heard that Plantas N Plants is popular for its diverse range of local shrubs and more. When we went to Plantas N Plants, we were blown away by what they had to offer.

The first thing we noted was how massive the nursery was, with a vast selection of plants, including some that are hard to find and rare.

But it was their collection of succulents that really caught our eye! They had a variety from snake plants to miniature potted burro’s-tail.

Despite the plenty of plants at Plantas N Plantas, we also liked that they had additional services that enhanced our overall experience.

However, at first, we had trouble finding staff who were able to provide helpful advice and answer our questions. We did come across some employees, but unfortunately, they didn’t seem very interested in interacting with customers and couldn’t offer much useful information about the plants.

Besides these things, though, we liked that they do plant styling. We were able to choose the pots we wanted for our plants and oversee the re-potting was correctly done for some seedlings we bought.

In addition, we noted that they do delivery for people who don’t have a big enough car of their own.

Pros

  • Extensive inventory
  • Helpful staff members

Cons

  • Organization needs improvement
  • Plants with soil nutrient deficiency

We went to Plants for All Seasons not too long ago. As soon as we stepped inside, we liked that we were welcomed by various vibrant flowers and beautiful saplings.

The staff also wasted no time in showing up to offer advice and show us around their extensive inventory. They had everything from tiny succulents to massive palm trees!

Plus, we thought it was great how knowledgeable the staff members we dealt with were about plants.

We also liked how the staff members helped us choose the best plants for our homes by answering our questions and giving us recommendations that suited our needs. We noted staff members around the nursery giving advice about different types of houseplants, garden design, and even landscaping tips.

However, we did find a few drawbacks with Plants for All Seasons.

We didn’t like how some of their plants were already beginning to show signs of soil nutrient deficiency. Quite a few different potted plants we passed by in the nursery had yellowed leaves.

Furthermore, we thought their plant organizational system could use some improvement. We had difficulties finding a few plants we wanted to take home, and their inventory wasn’t updated on their out-of-stock plants.

Pros

  • Vast array of plants
  • Plant consultations
  • Plant potting
  • Delivery available

Cons

  • Expensive

Many of those we’ve spoken with told us that we needed to check out Tall Plants Nursery.

From the moment we stepped foot onto the property, we were surrounded by a stunning array of gorgeous plants, ranging from towering palms and lush ferns to delicate succulents and colorful flowers.

As we browsed through the nursery, we couldn’t help but notice that the plants’ prices were relatively high, which might not be affordable for everyone.

What really set Tall Plants Nursery apart, though, was the knowledgeable and friendly staff on hand to offer guidance and advice. We were confident we would leave with the perfect plant for our home!

We thought it was great that they offered us a plant consultation service where they come to your home or office and help you select the perfect plants for your space. While we didn’t do a home plant consultation, we think this is a wonderful service for those who want to add some greenery to their environment but might not know where to start.

Another one of the things that we liked about Tall Plants Nursery was their additional services. They offered us plant potting services and repotting or upgrades for our existing plants.

By the way, they also have plant delivery services for those who need a little extra help transporting their new green friends home.

Pros

  • Convenient online nursery
  • Exotic fruit trees and plants

Cons

  • Slow responses
  • Lack of tracking info

M M Nurseries is an online nursery that makes shopping for plants from your home easy. At least, that’s what we were told!

So naturally, the first thing we did was check out their website. We liked how their website is beautiful in design and easy to navigate.

Their plant selection was extensive! Their website had a great selection of exotic trees and plants, such as Tropical Almond and Lychee.

But that’s not all we spotted! They also had houseplants, cuttings, succulents, and seeds.

We thought the ordering process was simple, as all we needed to do was input our address and little personal info. There were also different modes of payment available, which we found convenient.

However, one downside we experienced was the lack of communication during the shipping process.

We tried contacting them through their online contact us chatbot, but we never received a response. We weren’t given a tracking number or any updates on when our plants would arrive.

It made it difficult to plan for their arrival and caused some anxiety about whether or not they would arrive in good condition.

But, our plants arrived in excellent condition and were well-packaged. The plants were of high quality, healthy, and looked just like the pictures on the website!
