That being said though, celebrating your birthday in a restaurant or at home is, *say it with us*, is cliché. I mean, c’mon, it’s your birthday – go on and have fun, experience brand new things, maybe go and explore! Remember, it’s YOUR day!
Don’t worry – we got you! We’re discussing everything that you can do on your birthday in Houston – and NO, not just a birthday dinner. We want you to have the most amount of fun with the least amount of money to make you feel like you’re on top of the world!
1. Illuminate With Activate Houston

Phone Number: 281-888-8258
Hours:

- Friday: 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM

If your ideal birthday involves celebrating in the middle of the set of Tron, then Activate’s stunning bright lights will be the place you’re looking for! They offer a different twist to playing, and it’s kind of like playing in one big laser tag arena.
What makes Activate perfect for birthday celebrants is that you have plenty of options. You can either play with their laser tag arena or play some glow-in-the-dark basketball, the world is the birthday celebrant’s oyster!
The electronic wristband that you get upon buying their tickets will also track your progress, which can make for great memories to share on your special day. The wristband is also really pretty, adding to its charm.
Pro Tips:
- There can be way too many people at Activate during the weekends, making birthday celebrations that much more tedious sometimes. We strongly suggest booking on Fridays for the perfect compromise between space and time!
2. Go Ziplining at Geronimo Adventure Park
Address: 6749 Farm to Market 2920, Spring, TX 77379
Phone Number: 830-365-5867
Hours:
- Monday – Wednesday: Closed
- Thursday – Friday: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Sunday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
For the thrill-seeking birthday goers out there, Geronimo Adventure Park offers a more exciting birthday celebration with all the activities that you can do at the park! It’s a bit left field, but hey – it’s your birthday and you deserve to experience something special!
Geronimo Adventure Park’s main claim by far is its selection of ziplines! They have three courses to choose from, with each of them comprising 5 to 6 zipline courses each. Out of all three, we strongly suggest trying the Go Long for the most amount of fun!
If zipping across the forests isn’t what you’re looking for though, then Geronimo Adventure Park also has Axe Throwing available! It’s a good way to release all of your pent-up anger, along with being just a fun activity overall.
Pro Tips:
- If you are planning to visit Geronimo Adventure Park, we strongly suggest using a bigger vehicle like a pickup truck. The dirt road going there is filled with potholes, and it will break your car’s suspension if you’re not
3. Play DBD IRL at Zero Latency

If the birthday celebrant is either a) a fan of video games, b) a fan of Dead by Daylight, or c) just has a lot of pent-up anger in them that they need to release it, then Zero Latency can tick all those boxes!
Zero Latency’s immersive VR experience lets you roam around different worlds in their exclusive rooms. You can choose between a zombie theme for that full Dead by Daylight fantasy, or a space theme if you’d rather play Halo instead.
The rooms are the size of tennis courts so you and your friends can roam around freely without bumping into each other. The rooms also come with a great AC unit that ensures that you won’t sweat too much.
Pro Tips:
- Zero Latency has an age limit of 12 years old or above to ensure that the equipment is safe. They can still enter as long as they can carry the controller upright for 30 minutes and carry a 15 lb. computer on their back.
4. Escape The Night at Escape Game

Address: 794 Sorella Ct #127, Houston, TX 77024
Phone Number: 713-999-1496
Hours: Monday – Sunday: 8 AM – 12 AM
With two branches in Houston that you can try out, Escape Game is well-known for being one of the city’s premiere escape rooms. Birthday celebrants can also get a little surprise from them after the game, which makes them the ideal space to celebrate!
If you ask us which one between their CityCentre and Galleria locations would be better to celebrate, we’d recommend the former. CityCentre has more beginner-friendly rooms, along with having a more fun atmosphere overall compared to the Galleria location.
Regarding their rooms, both The Gold Rush and Playground are great for those looking for a more thrilling time. However, The Depths, a submarine-themed room is better suited for those looking for a more challenging time.
Pro Tips:
- We suggest leaving a note on your reservation if you’re celebrating your birthday! Their room masters will prepare something special for you after you’ve finished your game – and trust us, it’s worth it!
5. Go Clubbing at Unicorn Disco
Address: 2416 Brazos St Suite B, Houston, TX 77006
Phone Number: 832-509-4050
Hours:
- Sunday – Thursday: 4:00 PM – 2:00 AM
- Friday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 AM
- Saturday: 3:00 PM – 2:00 AM
Oozing with chic and filled with boho energy, Unicorn Disco is a retro lover’s go-to bar if you’re looking for a chill spot to celebrate a birthday! Everything at the Unicorn Disco screams the 1960s – from the decor to the music, it’s a retro lover’s dream come true!
Unicorn Disco also plays hit music from the ’60s as well, which adds to the retro vibe that they’re going for. Trust us, when “Respect” by Aretha Franklin comes on, the entire bar will vibe and sing along!
They are a BYOB establishment, but it adds to their chill factor more than anything else. By the way, we recommend trying out the Calamari with Spinach Dip from their menu – you can decide which drink to bring from that!
Pro Tips:
- Unicorn Disco’s bouncers can be a bit strict, to the point where they will continuously ask you to remove your eyeglasses even if they’re prescriptions. If you’re visiting, remember to bring some extra patience – you’ll need it, trust us.
6. Play The Night Away at Cidercade
Address: 2320 Canal St Suite 100, Houston, TX 77003
Phone Number: 281-787-2726
Hours: Monday – Sunday: 10 AM – 12 AM
With a good mix of iconic and modern games, Cidercade is what heaven looks like for the birthday celebrant-slash-gamer!
But you might ask, “what’s the point of celebrating my birthday in an arcade if there are noisy kids everywhere?”
We’ll stop you right there – yes, Cidercade is a family-friendly establishment during the day. However, after 8 PM, they become strictly 21+, and you can get their ciders with your games! Imagine playing Mario Kart while buzzed – now THAT’S a birthday!
Though they don’t have food options available in-house, there are food trucks available outside that change daily. If you ask us, visiting on Tuesdays for El Taco Nato’s is a good move – the combo of their Authentic Street Tacos and Guacamole is to die for!
Also, we just got the pun in their name when we saw their cider menu – Cider-cade – ciders and arcade! Their ciders are only available past 8 PM when Cidercade becomes an adults-only establishment, with the O.P. making you feel the birthday vibes!
Pro Tips:
- Some of Cidercade’s machines are on the older side – shoutout to the PacMan machine that looks and feels like it’s from the 90s. Thus, we strongly suggest being gentle with their machines to not break any of their gaming equipment!
7. Vibe With Cats at El Gato Coffeehouse
Address: 508 Pecore St Suite A, Houston, TX 77009
Phone Number: 832-968-3006
Hours:
- Monday, Wednesday: Closed
- Tuesday, Thursday – Friday: 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Sunday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Directly translated to “the cat coffeehouse”, El Gato Coffeehouse has something everyone appreciates – cats! Yes, El Gato Coffeehouse is a dedicated cat cafe – and hey, who DOESN’T love coffee AND cats?
El Gato Coffeehouse’s cats are all incredibly friendly and zen, which is surprising. These furry friends will even approach you and ask to be stroked while you’re having coffee, which is just the cherry on top.
Yes, it’s a more chill way to celebrate your birthday – but not every birthday has to be a bombastic event. Sometimes, going slow and enjoying what the day offers is enough – and El Gato Coffeehouse’s quaint, homey vibes provide that in spades!
Pro Tips:
Since El Gato Coffeehouse is a cat cafe, we strongly suggest bringing antihistamines with you, even if you’re just slightly allergic to cat fur. It can (and WILL) lead to allergic reactions, which is something that we’d all like to avoid.
8. Laugh Out Loud at The Secret Group
Address: East Village, 2101 Polk St, Houston, TX 77003
Phone Number: 832-898-1088
Hours: Monday – Sunday: 5:00 PM – 2:00 AM
Sometimes, all you need to celebrate your special day is a good dose of laughter – and Houston already has plenty to choose from. The best of them all, The Secret Group, hosts plenty of comedy shows to make you laugh in stitches on your special day!
As their name implies, The Secret Group is a bit more of a hush-hush comedy club, compared to comedy giants like The Houston Improv. But they still have comedians like Gary Melkie and Adam Mamawala booked, so they’re not a complete snooze-fest!
What’s more, if either you or the birthday celebrant feel like they have the comedy chops then The Secret Group also hosts open mic nights on Sundays! It’s a bit hit-or-miss, but if you manage to get the ball rolling then it’ll be a fun birthday indeed!
Pro Tips:
- Yes, The Secret Group’s tickets are cheap – you’d struggle to find tickets that cost less than $20. However, the parking, drinks, and everything else will jack the price up – thus, we strongly suggest bringing $75 with you to be sure!
9. Putt The Night Away at Popstroke
Address: Katy Grand, 23110 Grand Cir Blvd, Katy, TX 77449
Phone Number: 281-715-0480
Hours:
- Sunday – Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM
- Thursday – Saturday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Golfing is widely considered to be a rich man’s sport. Luckily, Popstroke makes the sport that much more accessible and a lot more immersive for everyone! They even make sure to make birthdays that much more special – well, if you want to, anyway!
You can book the entirety of Popstroke to celebrate your birthday, yes. But in our experience, just visiting them is so good that you’re not going to spend the extra thousand dollars! Trust us – the $50 per person is worth it.
Popstroke’s mini-golf courses are fun and immersive, and they somehow manage to capture the essence of an entire golf course in a few yards. That, and their excellent High Noon Watermelon will for sure put you in a birthday mood faster than you’d expect!
Pro Tips:
- Though Popstroke has a good selection of food and drinks, their service is slow. We strongly suggest making the most out of their golf courses while waiting – or bring some crackers with you to make sure you’re not too hangry!
10. Go Shrimping at Ebi Ebi Shrimp Fishing
Address: 9934 Jones Rd Suite A-3, Houston, TX 77065
Phone Number: 832-265-6996
Hours:
- Monday – Wednesday: Closed
- Thursday: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Friday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Sunday: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Yes, the act of shrimp fishing isn’t exactly what someone would do for their birthday. But think of it this way – birthdays are dedicated to making new memories, and what’s more memorable than catching your next meal – without the risk of toppling over on a boat?
Ebi Ebi Shrimp is an indoor fishing venue, which makes them ideal for celebrating your birthday. A little hack from us, say that it’s your birthday on your reservation notes – they’ll give you an extra hour to catch more shrimps!
We also have to commend Ebi Ebi Shrimp Fishing on their overall atmosphere. Despite being an indoor fishing area, it doesn’t smell at all. They have a good ventilation system, which makes catching your next tempura a nice experience!
Pro Tips:
- We strongly urge you to be patient with Ebi Ebi Shrimp! Catching shrimp needs dedication, especially since it’s a lot harder to catch shrimp compared to fish!
