Pros

  • More flexible hours
  • Year-round
  • Affordable pricing for weekly classes
  • Easy beginner classes for kids

Cons

  • Marks don’t go away completely

One of Houston’s best hip-hop classes, Break Free Hip-Hop School focuses on teaching children how to be themselves and develop and learn more about the arts, and “break free” from the stereotypes.

We have to commend Break Free Hip-Hop School and their dedication to teaching kids about dance at an early age – they have classes for kids as young as 3! These classes really teach them how to move and burn their energy the right way.

The hip-hop dance classes for kids are easy to understand and the teachers make sure that everyone can follow before moving forward. The classes themselves are relatively cheap, too.

If you want to sign up for individual classes, you’ll have to pay $99 a month for one class per week, or $79 if you’ll be signing up siblings. But if you want the best value for money and unlimited classes per week, then you’ll have to spend $159 a month for that.

We do have to warn you that there aren’t any classes on the weekends – rather, it’s only reserved for special events and workshops for those enrolled in the Break Free class.

The good thing about Break Free Hip-Hop School though is that they have year-round enrollments. But even if that’s the case, your kids won’t be missing any classes since the teachers catch up with their students with their lessons at their own pace.

Pros

  • Online classes available
  • Interesting, fun classes
  • Plenty of large studios
  • BallRoom can be rented

Cons

  • No classes on Sundays

With lots of interesting and fun classes for adults to take part in, Soundbox Studios stands out amongst other hip-hop classes in Houston by teaching you the basics to even more advanced choreographies – if you’re up to the task, that is!

What we liked the most about Soundbox Studios is that they have classes for everyone – not just hip-hop classes! You can learn a variety of dances, from beginner K-Pop dances to even beginner heel dances on Saturdays (we like this one, it was so fun!).

Their studios are large, too! The biggest ballroom comes in at 4470 sq. ft., and even their smallest studio is still 364 sq. ft., which is decent. This means that you’ll have lots of space to move, which is important when you’re learning how to dance.

And if the 4470 sq. ft. BallRoom interests you, then you can rent it out for your needs, too! They do have rules in place to make sure that everything will be in order, and you can only reserve it on certain hours and days, but it’s still open for anyone to rent out!

Now, the only thing that we have to nitpick about Soundbox Studios is that they don’t have any classes available on Sundays – and that’s it. Their classes are great, their instructors are kind, and the space is huge!

Pros

  • Classes for kids and adults
  • Cashless business
  • Kids and Youth classes start at a reasonable time
  • Great for kids learning how to dance

Cons

  • Expensive children and youth program

Priding themselves as one of Houston’s best-performing arts organizations, Houston Metropolitan Dance Center offers hip-hop dance classes for both beginners and experts alike!

Both adults and kids alike can take part in Houston Metropolitan Dance Center’s classes since they offer classes for everyone. Adults and kids have the benefit of learning ballet, jazz, and modern hip-hop, which is not a lot of variety but still good.

And even though they’ve been around for 25 years, they move with the times since they’re a cashless business, and they take credit and/or credit cards. Don’t worry though, they don’t retain your card’s information since you register online!

That being said though, you will have to pay a lot if you’re signing up your kids to an intro class. The cheapest youth class would set you back $990 for one class per week. And even if you can get 10% if two or more of your kids are enrolled, it’s still not a lot.

Then again, the classes for the Kids and Youth program start at 5 PM, which is a good time to start a dance class, especially for Houston kids. Their classes are fun, and the instructors train your kids in jazz, ballet, and hip-hop, so the prices are worth it.

Pros

  • Great variety of classes
  • Online classes
  • Great pace on hip-hop classes
  • Instructors allows you to work on your own pace

Cons

  • No dedicated classes for kids

Looking for a hip-hop dance class in Houston that can not just help you develop your dance skills, but can also keep you stay fit? Introducing Inner Me Studios – a place where you can unleash your “inner you” with their immersive and creative classes!

Inner Me Studios’ wide variety of classes is what impressed us the most. Their hip-hop classes are great and can help you get a good sweat in, but they also have Zumba, Step Aerobics, and even raunchier ones like Stiletto Fit and even Pole Dancing classes!

And before you complain – dancing in stilettos is good for maintaining your balance and can help you work out your leg muscles, and pole dancing is great for strengthening your core muscles, and they’re great classes for those who want a challenge!

However, these classes mean that Inner Me Studios has no classes for kids. Yes, kids can potentially enter their hip-hop classes – but that’s about it. They don’t have a class that’s dedicated just to kids, unlike other hip-hop dance studios in Houston.

All in all, however, we recommend giving Inner Me Studios a visit, especially if you’re someone who wants to learn a fun way to exercise. And you can get their classes at a huge discount this 2024 too – 50% off of any membership!

In our opinion, the best deal out of the 3 monthly passes would be the middle one, setting you back $149. It gives you the same benefits as the most expensive one, but you’ll be compromising 6 less premium classes along with access to their online class.

Pros

  • Knowledgeable instructions
  • Classes are clearly highlighted
  • Plenty of challenging and fun classes
  • Yoga classes available
  • Special showdowns are great shows

Cons

  • Relatively difficult to find

Though relatively new to the populace, knowbreaks poises to provide one of the best hip-hop dance classes in Houston – by giving their students a fun, challenging time.

We really have to give it up to knowbreaks’ founders, Joel and Jason. Both have been dancing for a long time, and their experience speaks for itself during their classes. Their classes are tough but can be really fun, especially the breaking class!

Knowbreaks’ calendar of events is good, too! They color-sort their classes, and even if it’s the same class every day, it’s still properly highlighted which can really help properly identify between classes.

They have yoga classes every Thursday, too! And it’s not just a regular yoga class – it’s a cool yoga class that can really stretch you out and test out your flexibility! The class can be really challenging, but it’s still very fun if you want to try it out.

But even though their classes are fun, knowbreak is hard to find as opposed to other hip-hop dance studios in Houston. We mean, if they have to have an Instagram reel on how to find them, that’s kind of an indicator of how tricky it is to find them.

Overall, however, knowbreaks’ classes are still fun. And they have special showdown exhibition battles that showcase the students’ dancing skills! They’re lively events, and they take it seriously with judges and everything!
