5 Best Massage Schools in Houston for Future Therapists
Starting a career in bodywork sounds relaxing until you start comparing tuition, schedules, and training hours. The best massage school in Houston should make that decision feel a lot less knotty.
Houston has plenty of local massage programs, but the right fit comes down to more than price. You’ll want solid hands-on training, sensible scheduling, and a program that actually prepares you for the job.
We’ve sorted through the practical details so you don’t have to. Here’s where to start if you’re ready to turn good hands into a real career.
How much does massage school cost in Houston?
A standard 500-hour massage therapy program in Houston typically costs $3,000 to $9,000. The final price depends on the school, class format, and what’s included.
Hybrid or online-heavy tuition usually runs $3,000 to $5,500. Traditional in-person programs tend to cost $5,500 to $9,000.
Books and online materials can add $200 to $600. A massage table may cost another $200 to $500.
Budget around $100 to $300 for starter supplies. Application and registration fees may add $50 to $200.
The MBLEx exam fee is $265. You should budget at least $100+ for the state license fee as well.
Check what your school includes before comparing prices. A higher tuition fee may already cover equipment, books, or supplies that you’d otherwise buy separately.
1. Avalon School of Massage

Address: 811 N Loop W
Contact: (713) 333-5250
Hours: Weekday classes 10 AM–2 PM or 6 PM–10 PM, with flexible switching between schedules
Avalon School of Massage has been training future therapists for more than 30 years, so it’s hardly new to the game.
Its 500-hour program covers Swedish massage, Thai techniques, Shiatsu, hydrotherapy, anatomy, and kinesiology.
The student clinic is a nice touch, with private treatment rooms, hydraulic tables, and table warmers. Better yet, the school books clients for the required 50-hour internship, so students aren’t left scrambling for practice hours.
MBLEx prep is included through a free review class, and students can switch between morning and evening weekday sessions when needed. Job fairs and an alumni Discord channel add some useful career support after class.
Scheduling could be an issue, though. Core training runs Monday through Friday, so anyone relying on weekend classes may find the program harder to fit around work or family commitments.

Budget-Friendly Student Support
Best massage school in Houston, great staff, friendly service, and always willing to help their students achieve their goals. I’m so glad I chose Avalon; their courses are reasonably priced, and they have great work-study programs for students on a budget 👍🏽

Broad Hands-On Modality Training
As a Student, I must say that this institution is as fine as they come. The staff and instructors are more than personable and intentional. They go above and beyond to properly educate their students on the Art of Massage therapy and the very broad history behind. Hands-on instructional demos through online and in-person classes EVERY WEEK. Thai; Swedish; Shiatsu, Reflexology, and a multitude and combination of many more modalities are taught here. Great location. Great parking. Great staff. Great students. AMAZING Massages! Highly recommended.

2. Institute of Massage & Health Education

Address: 5757 Woodway Dr., Suite 210
Contact: 713-838-1002 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 6 PM | Saturday, 9 AM – 2 PM
The Institute of Massage & Health Education leans heavily into the science behind bodywork, which gives its training a more clinical feel.
Its 500-hour program blends anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, pathology, and hands-on practice. That makes it a good fit for students who want more than technique drills and spa-style routines.
The school keeps classes relatively small, so the setup feels more focused than factory-line training.
Licensed therapists can even return for continuing education in areas such as perinatal, medical, and hot stone massage. And separate MBLEx tutoring gives students another option if licensing prep needs extra attention.
The drawback is flexibility. Class schedules are fairly fixed, and there’s no weekend-track option for the core program.

Instructor Course That Reignited Teaching
I recently completed a massage instructor course here. Arnetta Meekins is a great instructor and provided quality information. Her energy and delivery of the information were excellent. I am ready to get back to teaching massage. Thank you, Arnetta. I look forward to taking additional in-person classes here and will recommend others. The school is a nice facility and everyone there was pleasant and helpful.

3. Texas School of Massage

Address: 17045 El Camino Real, Suite 120
Contact: (281) 488-3903
Hours: Office: Monday-Thursday, 9 AM – 9 PM | Friday-Saturday, 9 AM – 6 PM; school operations: Monday–Thursday up to 10 PM
Texas School of Massage keeps things practical, affordable, and refreshingly straightforward.
Its licensing program covers core massage techniques, anatomy, kinesiology, body mechanics, business skills, and plenty of hands-on training.
Owner and instructor Dr. James F. Wray brings chiropractic and massage credentials into the classroom, which gives the science side some extra muscle.
Students train with equipment like massage chairs, body cushions, and Prego pillows rather than sticking to one basic setup.
We like that tuition starts around $3,400, with interest-free financing available. Day and night class options make the program easier to fit around work or family.
The trade-off is speed. The night track typically takes about 14 months, compared with roughly eight months for the daytime program.

Industry-Focused Massage Education
The best massage school in the US!! I am 1000% satisfied with the education I received from this school; their professionalism, techniques, and literally everything exceed my expectations! The instructors are very experienced and teach not only massage techniques, but everything you need to know about the massage industry, business, and more.. Also, if you are a client looking for a massage therapist, I’ll be interning at the school in May and June of 2024; ask for Bela 🙂

4. Phoenix School of Massage

Address: 6600 Harwin Suite 101
Contact: (713) 974-5976 | [email protected]
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 9 AM – 5 PM
Phoenix School of Massage has been training therapists in Houston since 1990, so it brings plenty of staying power to the table.
Its 500-hour hybrid program mixes online coursework with in-person hands-on training.
The curriculum goes beyond the basics with sports massage, Shiatsu, pregnancy massage, kinesiology, and clinical pathology.
And for all this, tuition is listed at $6,000, with textbooks and basic supplies included.
Schedule-wise, some are designed to finish in about five and a half months, which can suit students eager to move quickly. Plus, the hybrid setup keeps part of the week flexible without cutting out practical training.
The catch is that hybrid doesn’t mean fully remote. You’ll still need to commute to the Houston campus twice a week for hands-on sessions.

5. American Academy of Massage & Wellness

Address: 2990 Richmond Avenue – Suite 200
Contact: 979-215-2637 | 832-703-9934 | [email protected]
Class Hours: Monday-Thursday, 10 AM – 2 PM | Evening classes: Monday-Thursday, 6 PM – 10 PM
Office Hours: Monday, 9:30 AM – 2 PM | Tuesday, 9:30 AM – 2 PM & 6 PM – 10 PM | Wednesday, 9:30 AM – 4 PM | Thursday, 9:30 AM – 4 PM & 6 PM – 10 PM | Friday, 9:30 AM – 4 PM | Saturday, 10:30 AM – 4 PM
American Academy of Massage & Wellness gives students a little more bang for their tuition.
Its 500-hour program includes extra certifications in areas like deep tissue, prenatal massage, hot stone therapy, dynamic cupping, and CPR/AED.
You can choose between a full on-campus track and a hybrid setup, which helps if your week is already crowded. Interest-free payment plans make the cost easier to spread out, too.
The school puts plenty of emphasis on career readiness, with employment support and industry exposure built into the experience. For example, field trips to wellness facilities can give students a useful peek at where their training may eventually take them.
The main limitation is scheduling. Both day and evening core classes run Monday through Thursday, so weekend learners may need to look elsewhere.

Affordable Tuition and Patient Instruction
I’ve started my first month of Massage School. And let me tell you it’s the best decision I have ever made! Their school tuition is very affordable compared to other schools that’ve been around for years. The instructor, Joe Moreno, is both amazing as a person and as a teacher. He takes time breaking down everything so you’re not left feeling confused or lost. I will definitely recommend anyone who is interested in becoming a Massage Therapist to check out American Academy of Massage and Wellness😀
