best-members-only-clubs-houston-banner

Although Houston has plenty of bars you can visit during the night, an entirely different bar scene is available for people who want something more exclusive. They’re called members-only clubs, or as we’d like to call it, Costco for the rich and affluent.

Fun fact: New Yorkers used the same concept with speakeasies during prohibition. The only difference is speakeasies were illegal, whereas you can enter any members-only clubs – well, as long as you’re a member.

So prepare your connections and get ready to wear your formal wear – here are some of the members-only clubs in Houston that you can visit for an exclusive time today!

1. The Houston Club

Address: 910 Louisiana St Fl 49 Houston, TX 77002
Phone Number: 713-225-3257
Website
Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM–9:00 PM

The Houston Club has been around since 1894, and they pride themselves as one of the oldest private clubs in the Southwest United States! It’s so famous that several powerful people are members of the club, like former US president George H. W. Bush!

The prestige is understandable though, especially when you consider the perks of being a member. You’ll have a 50% discount on certain restaurants, along with a 25% discount on select golf courses. Both of these discounts apply nationwide, too!

Also, since most of their members are in the upper echelons of society, you can make plenty of good connections if you’re a part of the club.

Pro Tips:

Both members and non-members of The Houston Club can get a wedding experience at Sky Level. However, being a member will give you more perks and a huge discount for your wedding!

2. Westwood Country Club

A different kind of members-only club in Houston, signing up to be a member of Westwood Country Club lets you access their 3,000 sq. ft. roof deck along with a 10,000 sq. ft. golf course at the same time!

Westwood Country Club has been around since 1928, and it has seen several iterations throughout its lifespan. As of the moment, they’ve restored The Bunker which was a part of the original design.

Chevron Grill offers a la carte dining options for both its lunch and dinner menu. They require reservations beforehand, but it’s an exclusive dining experience so it’s worth it.

The restaurant might be smoke-free, but if you’re looking for a place to relax with cigars then we suggest Bayou Bengal Bar. It’s a more casual environment and you can also rent their cigar lockers for your own humidor.

However, that’s not everything that a membership with the Petroleum Club of Houston can net you. You’ll also receive invitations to important luncheons and dinners downtown, along with social events throughout the year, too.

The Houstonian’s members also enjoy the benefits of their monthly shindigs. The events change monthly, and both regular and associate members can get account credits to use for their future visits as well!

All three tiers offer comprehensive access to one of their two golf courses. However, signing up to the National tier gives you full access to both their Tom Fazio Championship and Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, plus all their amenities.

Their amenities include access to their restaurant which has wine from esteemed wineries like Peter Michael and Hundred Acre. They also have fun events too, like a Winter Carnival which lets you and your kids enjoy a snowy hill in Texas at Christmas!

Phone Number: 281-497-2222
Website
Hours:

  • Monday: Closed
  • Tuesday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM

One of Houston’s most exclusive clubs, Lakeside Country Club traces their roots back to 1951. As of the time of writing, they only have 1000 members.

The club is significantly smaller compared to other items on the list, only coming in at approximately 209 acres. But what they lack in size, they make up for in just how difficult it is to enter their ranks.

You see, before you become a member of the prestigious Lakeside Country Club, you’d need to be referred by an existing member first. And even if you got the reference, several sources have cited that the initiation price would come in at $100k.

But when you consider that Mark O’Meara, a professional baseball player, needed to ask Arnold Palmer for an invite to the club, then you know that it’s the real deal.

Pro Tips:

Every once in a while, Lakeside Country Club also hosts PGA Open Tours. You don’t need to be a member to check them out then, but you still need to buy tickets to see professional golfers live.

8. BraeBurn Country Club

Located 14 miles off of Downtown Houston, BraeBurn Country Club is an exclusive, members-only club for the entire family. They have everything, after all – from kid-friendly parks and pools to an upscale dining experience!

Speaking of their dining rooms, they have three options to choose from, and all of them offer different atmospheres. The Garden Room is a more casual dining experience, while The Gourmet Room is suited best for a formal dining experience.

They also have fun activities for kids, like the regular Easter Egg Hunt and a Children’s Halloween Party as well. But if your kids are a bit older, then they also have JuniorGolf and Family Drive Chip and Putt for members, too!

Pro Tips:

Much like Lakeside Country Club, BraeBurn Country Club also hosts PGA Open Tours as well! You don’t need to be a member too, but you’ll still need to be quick since tickets are hard to come by!

You can also apply as a Non-Resident Member, though you will need to be at least 100 miles from them before you apply

Pro Tips:

If you’re under 30, you can still be a part of Park House Houston. You will have to pay the same fees as the Resident Members after you turn 31, but you’ll still get $3,500 off for at least 5 years.
