The 7 Best Hair Salons in Houston

The 5 Best Hair Salons In Houston

Services: A top-notch salon needs to have a variety of services.

Experience: Any hair salon these days can have a website, but experience sets a good hair salon apart from the rest. We looked at hair salons that have employees who work with various hair textures and styles.

Cleanliness: Every person who walks into a hair salon notices how clean or dirty the business is. Hence, we chose only salons among the spotless ranks.

Communication: Have you ever gotten a haircut and just hated it? That's why communication is important to have with your hairstylist.

Pros

  • Specializes in African-American hair care
  • Variety of hairstylists
  • Appointments available and walk-ins
  • Offers nail, body, and face services too
  • Super clean
  • Credit cards accepted

Cons

  • A little bit on the pricier side
  • No online booking form, only a contact form
  • Not available on Mondays or Sundays

We love this hair salon because it offers more than just hair services. You can come here for a full day of self-care.

What stood out to us the most is that the stylists here specialize in African-American hair care, both natural and relaxed hair care. Many people don’t know how to handle curly hair, so it’s rare to find a place where they get it right.

Salon Meyerland does just that, so if you’re a curly-haired girl or guy, this place is just for you. We like how they offer many hairstyles most normal hair salons don’t, such as braiding and weaving.

We also love how there’s a variety of hairstylists to choose from, and contact yourself before you go into the hair salon to get a price quote. Of course, the price isn’t solid until they actually see your hair length and its thickness.

We like the flexibility of walk-ins being available. Still, if you’re a more organized person, you can also call ahead and schedule an appointment.

We noticed that there is no online booking form on the website, only a contact form. However, it doesn’t look reliable.

We would recommend sticking with calling the actual stylist’s phone number. Since the price is set by your hairstylist, the price might be a little bit higher than a typical hair salon.

Pros

  • Specialize in hair coloring
  • Kid-friendly
  • Online booking
  • Credit cards
  • Decent prices

Cons

  • Does not cater to naturally curly hair
  • Hair dye may have chemicals
  • Closed on Mondays

One of the first things that caught our eyes about this hair salon in Houston was its website. Not only is it user-friendly, but it’s very chic and modern.

We also love that they list the starting prices for their services on their website. What stood out to us is that they use name brands of hair products popular today.

A picture speaks a thousand words. So, we loved the simple layout along with images of their former client’s hair.

We love the building design too, as it gives us retro farmhouse vibes. Their whole business screams creativity, actually.

They do regular hairstyles, but they also do your hair for special occasions like weddings. You can even get your makeup done professionally here!

The hair colors they use are vivid, and they know how to do a creative ombré to meet all your super chic hair ideas. But the hair dye they use does have chemicals in it, so that is something to keep in mind.

A downside is that they don’t cater to naturally curly hair, so I would be careful if going here for a haircut. But they do cater to children, so that’s one bright side!

They do have an option to book online too, by the way, which is pretty neat.

Pros

  • Very clean
  • Botanical therapy offered
  • Credit cards accepted
  • Wine served

Cons

  • Not for children
  • Expensive
  • Closed on Sundays

We are all for having healthy, luscious hair, and the products this salon uses are different from most. We love how they use aromatherapeutic essential oils to bring back dead hair to life.

We also love that they offer botanical therapy: it’s pretty much a massage for your scalp to help repair moisture in your hair. We are all for it!

Coming here is like a spa day for your hair, although it’s worth noting that they actually have normal spa services, which you can check out. Perfect for both men and women to enjoy with a haircut for a day of pampering, we think.

But perhaps our favorite thing about this salon is that they give you wine! That’s pretty much in line with their relaxation-and-pampering-oriented services, really.

But there’s always a catch to a super-cool place like this: they are a little pricier than your average salon.

That’s actually what we don’t like about this place, as it’s not budget-friendly. Nor is it family-oriented, either – it’s not really the sort of place you’d bring kids for a haircut.

That aside, this is where to go if you want the ultimate pampering experience while getting your hair done.

Pros

  • Free wifi
  • Credit cards accepted
  • Assigns 2 stylists to work on each customer
  • Reasonable prices

Cons

  • Caters primarily to women
  • Not kid-friendly

What we like the most about this salon is that more than one person works on your hair for each appointment, so your hair can get done faster. It’s really efficient as their stylists are used to working with each other simultaneously.

They also have free wifi, which we obviously like. It’s helpful if you’re the type to work while you get your hair done, as their connection has decent speed.

The prices are very reasonable for balayage, ombrés and haircuts. Everyone who works here is also sweet and kind and very willing to collaborate with you to get you the hair you want.

They are a bit on the pricier side and cater more to women’s hairstyles, though. It’s also not a kid-friendly hair salon, we think.

We recommend being careful during the consultation for your hair with the stylists here. They can get a little too excited and choose the colors they think best for you.

To be sure, that’s not bad, but you still do want to assert your own opinion since it’s your hair. It’s always wise to come prepared with a picture of exactly what you want.

Pros

  • Accepts Apple Pay
  • Free wifi
  • Experience working with curly hair
  • Ammonia-free hair coloring used

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Cancellation fee imposed
  • Non-refundable deposit fee
  • By appointment only

The first thing we noticed about this place is that they offer ammonia-free hair coloring. This means you can color your hair whatever color you want with little to no damage to it, which is great!

Not many hair salons offer chemical-free products, so we were excited to check out this salon. They also specialize in the babylight hair coloring technique, similar to balayage.

It’s worth noting though, that while their salon is more simply designed on the inside, the prices are not so simple. Basic hair cuts here can range in the hundreds.

This is because most of the people who work here are master hair stylists who have trained for years mastering different hair techniques. Therefore, it’s by appointment only, so there are no walk-ins.

They are also great with cutting and styling curly hair! But they specialize in their hair coloring, specifically getting rid of the annoying brassy undertones when trying to go blonde.

However, there are things we dislike, like the fact that they have a non-refundable deposit of $75 from new clients if you’re getting hair color service. We also aren’t fond of how they charge you 50% of the price if you cancel in less than 24 hours.

So we wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a more flexible hair salon or if you’re on the hunt for reasonably priced services.

Cons

Photo Ready Salon is a hair salon that provides clients with luxury and bespoke hair care treatments that help clients enjoy healthier hair for long periods of time.

From highlighting to styling, we like that their treatments make use of trusted and quality products such as Bio Silk, Moroccan Oil, and Nairobi among others.

Furthermore, past clients have also commended them for their educational and holistic approach wherein they not only do the treatment but also take the time to inform clients of relevant information on their hair condition.

Though note that their booking schedules are only limited to certain days and times of the week which new clients may need to be informed of beforehand.

Nonetheless, with their highly experienced stylists, quality and holistic treatments, and accommodating customer service, we recommend them to clients in the area looking for hair styling options.
