  • Range of Treatments: We looked at the variety of available therapies and medical options. Clinics that offer specialized programs stood out for their complete care approach.
  • Insurance and Pricing: Paying for medical care can cause immense stress. We prioritized locations that accept major insurance plans or offer clear self-pay rates.
  • Provider Expertise: A strong background in psychology or psychiatry guarantees safer patient outcomes. We checked the credentials and board certifications of the lead clinicians.
  • Scheduling Convenience: You deserve prompt help during difficult seasons of life. We favored places offering virtual video options and flexible weekly hours.

Trying to find the right psychiatrist can feel like a second job when your brain’s already running overtime. I’ve been there, scrolling through clinics and wondering who might actually be a good fit.

That’s why I started looking for the best mental health clinic in Houston, from counseling practices to full psychiatric care. I focused on places that seem approachable, practical, and clear about what they offer.

I’ve broken down the strengths, drawbacks, and likely out-of-pocket costs so you can compare without the usual guesswork. Hopefully, it saves you a few tabs, a few phone calls, and a bit of unnecessary stress.

How much does it cost to visit a mental health clinic in Houston?

Mental health care in Houston can vary quite a bit by provider and service. If you’re paying out of pocket, standard therapy often runs from $100 to $300 per session.

Psychiatric care usually costs more. Initial evaluations may fall between $250 and $350, while follow-up medication visits often cost $150 to $225.

Lower-cost options are available, too. Sliding-scale clinics and university centers may charge anywhere from $5 to $80 per session.

1. Houston Medical Mental Health Clinic: Lucas Egebe, PMHNP-BC, DNP

houston-medical-mental-health-clinic-lucas-egebe-pmhnp-bc-dnp

Website

Address: 2833 Spears Rd, Suite C

Contact: 346-270-5897; [email protected]

Hours: Mon-Thu: 8:30 AM – 4 PM; Fri-Sat: 9 AM – 4 PM

What caught my eye about Houston Medical Mental Health Clinic is that it doesn’t treat mental health like it exists in a vacuum.

Lucas Egebe, PMHNP-BC, DNP, provides psychiatric care alongside several general medical services.

That setup can be handy if you’d rather keep more of your care under one roof. The clinic treats concerns like anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, with video consultations available for extra flexibility.

I like that they accept several major insurers, though it’s still worth checking your exact plan before booking.

Egebe is a certified Department of Transportation medical examiner too, which adds another practical service for eligible patients.

The main drawback is scheduling, since the clinic closes at 4 PM even on weekdays. It’s closed Sundays as well, so evening and full-weekend options are fairly limited.

Pros

  • Offers psychiatric care alongside several general medical services
  • Treats anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and other mental health concerns
  • Video consultations available
  • Accepts several major insurance providers
  • DOT-certified medical examiner services available

Cons

  • Closes at 4 PM, even on weekdays
  • Closed on Sundays

Customer Reviews

Definitely recommended to those who have delayed their mental health.

I was very anxious to begin therapy, but from the first session, I felt safe at Medical Mental Health Clinic. My therapist is great at making me feel at ease without pressuring me. They listen without judgement and have given me some tools I can use in my everyday life. Finding someone who really understands the connection is not easy, but I’m SO happy to have found this place. Definitely recommended to those who have delayed their mental health.

I’m really thankful I found this clinic.

I’m really thankful I found this clinic. The people here are kind, easy to talk to, and they make you feel comfortable from the start. It’s been a great experience for me. Best mental health clinic near me. What I liked most was that I never felt judged. I could talk openly, and the provider really listened before giving any advice.

2. St John Mental Health Clinic of Houston

st-john-mental-health-clinic-of-houston

Website

Address: 14811 St. Mary’s Lane, Suite 270

Contact: (281) 497-3500; Fax: (281) 497-3512

Hours: By appointment

What stood out to me about St John Mental Health Clinic is its focus on harder-to-treat depression. The practice offers options like Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, IV ketamine, and Spravato when standard treatment hasn’t worked well enough.

I like that new consultations can run 60 to 75 minutes, which gives the doctor more time to get the full picture.

Telepsychiatry is available too, which can make routine medication follow-ups easier to fit around a busy week.

The clinic may use genetic testing in some cases to help guide treatment decisions. That adds another tool without making it sound like a magic answer.

The trade-off is that this isn’t really a family-therapy kind of practice. IV ketamine is another consideration, since the clinic says insurance doesn’t cover it.

Pros

  • Specializes in treatment-resistant depression
  • Offers TMS, IV ketamine, and Spravato
  • New consultations can last 60 to 75 minutes
  • Telepsychiatry available for follow-up care
  • May use genetic testing to help guide treatment

Cons

  • Not geared toward traditional family therapy
  • IV ketamine isn’t covered by insurance
  • More specialized than a general counseling practice

3. One Behavioral Health

one-behavioral-health

Website

Address: 7505 Main Street, Suite 300

Contact: 713-429-5325, Fax: 877-878-5601

Hours: Monday-Friday 8 AM – 5 PM

What I like about One Behavioral Health is that it gives you more than one way into care. You can book in-person or virtual visits, which is handy in Houston when traffic alone can test your patience.

The network has a broad mix of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychologists, and counselors. Services range from psychotherapy to medication management and Suboxone treatment.

There’s a decent spread of insurance participation too, including some Medicare and Medicaid plans.

The main drawback is that the Medical Center location only lists weekday hours. Insurance participation isn’t uniform across the roster either, which adds one extra thing to confirm before booking.

Pros

  • Offers both in-person and virtual appointments
  • Broad team of psychiatrists, therapists, and other mental health providers
  • Provides psychotherapy and medication management
  • Offers Suboxone treatment
  • Many providers accept major insurance plans, including some Medicare and Medicaid options

Cons

  • Medical Center location has no published weekend hours
  • Insurance participation varies by provider
  • May require extra checking to confirm coverage with your chosen clinician

I am so grateful for mental health professionals

My psychiatrist and therapist have been extremely helpful during a very difficult time in my life.   I’m always comforted knowing that no matter how bad things get, I will be able to speak to them and work through personal issues.  I am so grateful for mental health professionals.

I’m so happy

Kenneth Tackett was referred to me by a friend, struggling with severe panic disorder and other mental health issues. HE heard me and recommended the best medication he knew would help; he was very excited for me to start this journey, as was I. The flow of the virtual appt was great; everything was easy! To get an appointment and to fill out any forms, all so easy!! I’m so happy

4. The PsyClinic

the-psyclinic

Website

Address: 2400 Mid Lane, Suite 210

Contact: 281-837-6463; Fax: 281-837-0600

Hours:  By appointment

What I like about The PsyClinic is that it treats patients across a wide age range, from kids to older adults. That makes it a practical option for Houston families comparing psychiatric care for more than one generation.

The clinic handles conditions like ADHD, anxiety, panic attacks, and other psychiatric concerns.

It has locations in Houston, Webster, and Baytown too, which gives patients a few more options around the region.

The practice leans heavily into psychiatric evaluation and treatment rather than feeling like a general counseling center. That can be a plus if medication management or specialist psychiatric care is what you’re after.

The downside is that appointments require advance scheduling, so spontaneous walk-in care doesn’t seem to be the focus.

Pros

  • Treats children, teens, adults, and older adults
  • Provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management
  • Treats ADHD, anxiety, panic attacks, and other psychiatric concerns
  • Multiple locations in Houston, Webster, and Baytown
  • Good fit for patients seeking specialist psychiatric care

Cons

  • Appointments require advance scheduling
  • Less suited to those mainly looking for a general counseling-only practice

Customer Reviews

I’ve had such a great experience with their team!

I’ve had such a great experience with their team! I’ve been doing therapy sessions with Kendall, and I absolutely love working with them. They’ve helped me so much with my mental health and always make me feel comfortable, heard, and supported every time.

Their scheduling is super flexible, which helps a lot with a busy life. Even when I don’t have anything booked, they’re always on top of reaching out and helping me stay consistent, which I really appreciate.

I highly recommend this clinic to anyone struggling with mental health issues.

This is exactly the place I’ve been looking for. Dr. Ahmed is so compassionate and caring.  He offered me hope for finally feeling better.  The best part is they got me in right away.  I highly recommend this clinic to anyone struggling with mental health issues.

5. Moore Mental Health & Behavioral Services

moore-mental-health-behavioral-services

Website

Address: 13810 Champion Forest Dr., Ste #150

Contact: 281-415-1280; [email protected]

Hours: By appointment

What stands out about Moore Mental Health is its focus on psychological testing rather than trying to be everything to everyone. The clinic evaluates children and adults for emotional, academic, intellectual, and behavioral concerns.

That can be useful when you’re less interested in guesswork and more interested in understanding what’s actually going on.

Psychologists use those evaluations to help shape more informed treatment recommendations.

The website still lists services like individual, faith-based, and LGBTQIA+ counseling. Right now, though, the clinic says counseling isn’t available, so I’d treat testing as the main reason to consider it.

The main limitation is that this feels more like a testing-focused practice than a one-stop mental health clinic. If you need ongoing counseling, medication management, or an autism evaluation, you may have to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Strong focus on psychological testing and evaluations
  • Evaluates both children and adults
  • Covers emotional, academic, intellectual, and behavioral concerns
  • Useful for patients seeking clearer diagnostic insight
  • Can help inform more targeted treatment recommendations

Cons

  • More testing-focused than full-service
  • Ongoing counseling is currently limited
  • Medication management isn’t a core service
  • Autism evaluations are no longer offered

Thank you for putting our minds at ease and helping us get started on our next journey in mental health

Dr. Rollins was compassionate, helpful, and thorough. She explained everything in easy-to-understand verbiage. I would definitely recommend her to any family seeking answers. Thank you for putting our minds at ease and helping us get started on our next journey in mental health.

I was very pleased with the professionalism of the staff and the thorough assessment of my children

This week my children were assessed by The Moore Mental Health & Behavior practice. I called the practice to request a psychological evaluation within a narrow scheduling time.  I was given an appointment without any hesitation. I was very pleased with the professionalism of the staff and the thorough assessment of my children. The children seemed comfortable and calm when they completed the session. The doctor was transparent about the length of the session, but they were accommodating during the wait time. I would refer this practice to anyone.
