Pros
- Daily specials available
- Easy online ordering system
- Plenty of sushi and non-sushi options
- House drinks have good flavor profiles
Cons
- Complicated operating hours
A delicious sushi place in Houston that offers something different every single day, Kata Robata offers a deliciously authentic Japanese food experience for every Houstonian out there.
The thing that we liked about Kala Robata is their daily specials. This adds a more personalized and specialized feeling for every visit. We highly suggest the Unegi Shirayaki and Wagyu Tsukuna.
Their online ordering system is pretty nifty, too! You don’t need any third-party apps and a lengthy delivery process – a few clicks are all you need and voila! A deliciously made Japanese meal is right at your doorstep.
And if you’re not in the mood for sushi, it’s okay since they have plenty of non-sushi options for you to try, too. Their Texas Wagyu Katsu Sando’s bread is fluffy and has a good flavor profile that’s unexpected from a steak sandwich.
But if there’s something that we have to complain about Kala Robata, it’s probably their operating times. It’s pretty complicated when compared to other restaurants on the list, and it can be confusing if you’re a first-time diner.
Don’t let that stop you from visiting though – their house drinks are delicious, too! If you want an authentic Japanese drink, then we suggest their Murai Family Genshu. It’s sweet and has the right warmth to it without getting you drunk.

Pros
- Sushi happy hour
- Vegetarian options available
- Accessible location
- Plenty of menu options
Cons
- Pricey menu
The thing that stands out the most about Soto is that they’re easier to find compared to other sushi places in Houston. They’re located right at the side of the road, so they’re quite easy to spot!
We recommend the Hokkaido Uni (Sea Urchin) from their Japan Express menu. There’s no soapy flavor usually present with poorer-quality Uni, and it compliments the soy sauce well.
Soto has vegetarian options for those who are allergic to fish, too! The vegetarian items still taste authentic and come in reasonable servings, too. We suggest the Vegetarian Potato Chips and the Edamame!
Though we did like everything from Soto’s menu, their prices are a bit more expensive than expected. The Hokkaido Uni will set you back $15, and the cheapest Makimono (sushi roll) costs about the same.
However, there’s a little workaround with these prices since Soto has a Happy Hour where you can get some of their food at a discount price. You should give their $8 Chili Hamachi a try from the Happy Hour menu.

Pros
- Great event space
- Budget-friendly menu items
- Good variety of food
- Plenty of alcoholic drink options
Cons
- Some menu items are market-price
If you want to celebrate important events with great sushi, then Sushi on Post Oak is the way to go. They have a wonderful event space where you can have fun with your loved ones while enjoying quality sushi.
Sushi on Post Oak has a 3500 sq. ft. events area where they can fit 150 people for a sushi party, or 250 for a cocktail event.
Their competitive pricing is the icing on top for us! Though most of their prices are similar to other sushi places, they have Lunch Sushi Combos where you can try different kinds of sushi for around $18 – $38.
Our top picks from Sushi on Post Oak are their Sashimi combo paired with the Blazing Tuna. They’re flavorful without being too fishy!
However, we do have to warn you that some of the menu items’ prices are set at Market Price, so there’s no saying what their price will be on a certain day. These include the Fatty Tuna, Sea Urchin, and the Executive Chef’s Omakase.
But their alcoholic drinks more than make up for the different prices – they’re all a must-try! Their Piper Sonoma Brut is perfect if you want a good wine, and if you want something stronger, then the 8-year-old Kurayoshi Malt should be your go-to.

Pros
- Their gift cards are perfect gift ideas
- Traditional sushi and Japanese food
- All-you-can-eat lunch and dinner
- Great drink menu
Cons
- Limited drinks selection
Kanau Sushi is a great place to have a great time in Houston, since you can get your friends and family an experience at this posh sushi place by giving them a gift card!
We know – gifting someone a gift card can be tacky. But we can be sure they’ll appreciate Kanau Sushi’s gift cards! You can gift them a $100 worth at the time of writing, which can get you quite a lot!
The best thing about Kanau Sushi is that they’re an eat-all-you-can sushi restaurant! Best of all, it costs $26.95 for lunch and $36.95 for dinner. So, if you’re in the mood to binge on sushi, this is definitely the place to go.
Our top picks are their Spicy Yellowtail Roll and Tiger Eye! They’re delicious without being too “fishy,” which we liked.
We should mention Soto’s drinks, too! Though there’s not much to choose from, we suggest giving out their Strawberry Cream and the Kanau 75 a try. Their fruity flavor compliments the strong kick of the sake, and you can really savor it when you try it.

Pros
- Easy table reservations
- Plenty of menu options
- Reasonable pricing
- Happy hour menu
Cons
- Lack of dessert options
What we liked the most about Sushi by the Heights is their reasonable prices and wide variety of menu options make them stand out compared to other sushi places in Houston.
Though most of their menu items are good, we suggest trying out the Seared Hamachi (Yellowtail) and Unagi Sashimi. Both are fresh and go perfectly well with their house sakes.
Speaking of their sake, their Gekkeikan Kobai Plum goes well with any of the sashimi options – though you’ll have to fork over $30 for a cup. But it has a unique flavor profile and is smooth going down so it’s well worth the asking price.
Their other menu options are really delicious, too! Especially their Japanese Hummus, to be exact. It’s a unique twist on a Greek dish and it goes well with the pita bread that it comes with.!
Now, we did mention that they don’t have enough dessert options – but it doesn’t matter since their mochi is perfectly sweet and doesn’t get stuck in your throat, which is a problem with most mochi that we’ve come across.
We also have to mention their Happy Hour, which runs from Mondays to Fridays from 3 PM to 7 PM. There are some limited menu items that you should try (Salmon Scallion), and you can get their drinks for a dollar off, too!
