Pros

  • Four locations in the city
  • Happy Hour every weekday from 3PM-7PM

Cons

  • Service can be slow at peak hours
  • Smaller portions

La Calle Tacos has four locations in the city, which is fantastic. They’re on Franklin Street, Gray Street in Bagby Park, Ella Boulevard, and Main Street.

We went to the one on Franklin Street, which greeted us warmly with its bright colors and happy atmosphere. The energy was still quite high for a late night snack, which is perfect for people looking to have a good time.

They’re well-known for their tacos, which of course we had to try! They have a good range of meats and other dishes to choose from, which we really appreciate.

We noticed that service can be a little slow in their peak hours, so you might have to wait a little bit. They can get especially busy during Happy Hour, which is every weekday from 3PM-7PM.

Their menu items are fairly priced, although we do wish the portions were a little larger. Some people do find their dishes a little overpriced because of this.

They serve a lot of drinks too, which is perfect for those who want to end the night with a bang. They have tequila, margaritas, piña coladas, and plenty of beers.

We’re also pretty big fans of their flan de queso, which is a great option if you’re looking for something sweet to cap your night!

Pros

  • Cozy ambience
  • High quality food

Cons

  • 2-hour time limit for your stay

Nancy’s Hustle on Polk St. A is a modern bistro, which is a good place to go if you want to relax and end the night with a good meal and a cold glass of wine.

They have a great selection of wines, and they also serve signature cocktails, ciders, and beers. They also have a good range of non-alcoholic options for those who would prefer them!

They do get very busy, so we recommend making a reservation beforehand. The largest party they are able to accommodate is six guests, so do keep that in mind.

They might also let you know that there is a two hour limit on your stay, which can happen when the restaurant is really busy.

This can be a little inconvenient for groups who want to take it slow and take their time savoring their meals.

The place is quite small, with a cozy low-lit atmosphere. Their menu items include pastas, salads, and other elegant dishes like grilled chicken and seared duck breast.

Their price range is definitely on the more expensive side, but we find it reasonable given their excellent service and food quality. Their main dishes cost around $17 to $35.

We also highly recommend their nancy cakes with cultured butter, smoked trout roe and chives. The flavors were perfectly balanced, making it our favorite dish of the night!

Pros

  • Live music and cigar nights

Cons

  • 2-hour time limit for your stay
  • 18% gratuity applied to all parties no matter the size

Phil and Derek’s is a great place to go if you want to wind down with live music at the end of the day. They always have live bands that play music like jazz and R&B.

They also have late night Sip and Smoke events for those who want a nightcap with cocktails and cigars.

It’s a beautiful restaurant, with two indoor dining areas, a patio, and a deck. These are perfect for intimate events as well, such as birthday and wedding parties.

The place is definitely fancy, and the price range reflects that. Their entrées cost between $23 to $35, and their appetizers cost $10 to $18.

There is also an 18% gratuity applied to all parties no matter the size, so be sure to keep that in mind!

However, the ambience, service, and quality of food makes it all worth it for us. Their staff is extremely polite, friendly, and accommodating, making it a laid-back and enjoyable experience for us.

We should note, though, that the place can get quite busy (especially if you’re there during their brunch hours). The late night hours are usually a little better, but it can still get quite busy.

This usually means a 2-hour dining limit, and a wait time for your food that can last up to 45 minutes. We recommend taking it easy with a good drink.

Pros

  • Large selection of menu items
  • Wines are 30% off by the bottle on Monday and Tuesday nights
  • Live music

Cons

  • Slow service during peak hours

Birraporetti’s is a classic Italian restaurant in Downtown Houston. They also have another location on West Parkwood Suite in Friendswood, TX.

They have a great selection of menu items, including classic Italian pizzas and pastas. You can even create your own signature pizza, which we jumped at the chance to do!

Their mains cost around $20 to $40, and their large stone oven pizzas cost $21. The food can definitely be a little expensive, so keep that in mind.

We definitely recommend going on Monday or Tuesday, because their wines are 30% off by the bottle. This is because they believe every good meal is best served with a great wine!

We should note that service can be a little slow, especially when they’re in their peak hours (usually before the theater shows across the street). This can mean long waiting times, or difficulty getting your server’s attention.

The staff were quite friendly and welcoming to us, though, which we really like. They made sure we were comfortable during our experience there.

They also have live music sometimes, with talented lounge singers or blues bands adding to the atmosphere. All in all, we had a pleasant experience!

Pros

  • Nightly lively events

Cons

  • Cover charge and gratuity fee

Hamburger Mary’s Bar and Grille is a fun option for late night food, especially if you’re also looking for a fun night out.

They have nightly events like their “Dancing with the Divas” drag shows, karaoke nights, and game nights for lovers of trivia and bingo games. We had a lot of fun at their Thursday Sing! show!

They’re of course best known for their hamburgers, which come in four options. They all cost from $16 to $19, which is very reasonable given their size and quality!

It’s not the biggest range of food options to choose from, but it’s perfect if you’re craving a burger and some appetizers like mozzarella sticks, tater tots, and chicken tenders.

We should note that there is a cover charge of $6 for their events. If you’re not in the mood for a lively show, we recommend going to one of the other options on our list.

The place is also pretty small, so service can get a little slow at times. We also recommend going nice and early if you want to make sure you get a good spot for the show.

We should also note that they add gratuity for every party! Some customers we talked to were not aware of this, and were unfortunately surprised when the bill came at the end of the night.
